Classic Rock Bottom

There is a brand new album by The Smithereens coming out in April (I wouldn't have known this if not for Jon's awesome "New Release" thread).  I don't think The Smithereens are well known around this site, so I thought I'd offer up 10 of my favorite Smithereens tracks.  This band hails from New Jersey and has been around since 1980.  Their name was inspired by Yosemite Sam, so they can't be too awful, right?  They are simply a 60's influenced Power Pop band.

I only own 3 of their studio albums, and these 10 songs come from those albums.  The albums are Especially For You (1986), Green Thoughts (1988) and The Smithereens 11 (1989).  What you get here are singles with a few album cuts thrown in for good measure.

Heard of them but never heard them.  Will listen in the a.m.  Sounds promising!

The first band, I thought of, when I heard the beginning of the first song was The Who, also when he started to sing.

I think, it reminded me of the song "Heaven and Hell" by Entwhistle.

I realized, that I had heard the band before. Have you posted the first song before?

I like the music. For 10-15 years ago, I would probably have bought one of their albums. Now I think, it's nice to listen once or twice. I can definetly also hear some Elvis Costello in them. Also a bit of Mellencamp. "Cut Flowers" is a very good song!!

I like these IMHO-list with bands, you don't really know.

Now, why did'nt anybody (except you, RJhog) respond to my Del Amitri-list a few weeks ago, Jon? Scott?

They are a good band.  I've seen them live twice in a small club in Augusta, but that's been 20 years or so.  They definitely put on a good show back then, and I started the playlist with the song that they started the show with way back then.  It's my overall favorite.  I usually put my favorite song in the number 4 slot (no particular reason, that's just the way I do it).  However, since I wanted to start the playlist with it, I put my second favorite in the number 4 slot, which is the very song you mentioned.  How 'bout that?

 Now batting clean-up....  RJ's favorite!

Ummm...I will listen tomorrow, I swear. It was on my mind today and I got caught up listening to Paul Stanley for almost 2 hours.

But, from what I remember about Del Amitri, I didn't like them. Or maybe I did. I will let you know though.

And were you crying when you typed that about Scott and I?

I could'nt stop!!
Awwww...
