Classic Rock Bottom

I want you to put some thought into this question. I think we can all agree the state of classic rock radio is pathetic these days. I am so sick of the ever shrinking playlist and repetition of the same tired songs. Let's pretend there is a classic rock/hard rock radio station not owned by one of the corporations like Clear Channel, so you have much more freedom in terms of a playlist. Pretend you are the program director and are assigned to design a two hour playlist for classic rock radio. The songs must be from the classic rock or classic hard rock genre (preferably a bit of a mix)

Here are the rules:

1) You cannot repeat the same artist twice.

2) You will program two hours of music with each hour containing ten-twelve songs.

3) Your playlist must be somewhat realistic. In other words, don't program something like Death Angel who never had any chance of airplay.

4) The songs must be radio appropriate. In other words, if they contain a lot of profanity, etc don't list them because we are talking about "corporate" radio.

5) Mix your playlist up.

I will post mine later.

ok cool idea...  I would think that you may want to also identify the region your audience will be in since your playlist may be inlfluenced by that as well, for example if you are a Seattle station versus and New York station versus a Jacksonville Fl station, I can easily see that some artist selections may be received more warmly than if they were played elsewhere.

I need to stew on this for a few...

This sounds like fun, I'll post a proper reply, but probably tomorrow or the next day.  Cool idea Scandal.
Interesting idea, but here's my problem: Why couldn't I program something from someone like Death Angel? What's I want to do is throw some lesser known bands in with the known to create variety and to maybe garner interest in a band a majority of radio listeners might not know about.
Yours would be an underground show...
Exactly we could probably as a side thread to this one then do an underground show as well which might be fun as well. For starters, I would like to do more of a "corporate" type playlist that would be conceivable for a mainstream radio station, yet not so predictable at the same time. I am putting some thought into this as well.
Ok, so for this one I'm guessing it's mainstream artists, but generally not the songs played over and over on the radio. Yeah, this'll take a few days!
Yes, you can throw in a few slightly more obscure bands if you choose, but generally well known bands. After we finish this one, then perhaps we can take your idea and do more of an underground show. That would be fun as well.

Alright here is my playlist. I tried to get some diversity here but I don't think anything is outrageous:

Hour One

Queen-Radio Ga Ga

Steppenwolf-The Pusher

Def Leppard-Hello America

ZZ Top-Party on the Patio

Alice Cooper-Caught in a Dream

Deep Purple-Highway Star

Billy Idol-Cradle of Love

Robin Trower-Bridge of Sighs

Moody Blues-Singer in a Rock n Roll Band

Badlands-Dreams in the Dark

Slade-Run Run Away

Hour Two

Ace Frehley-New York Groove

Fleetwood Mac-Green Manalishi

Black Sabbath-Neon Knights

Axe-Rock n Roll Party in the Streets

Heart-Even it Up

April Wine-If You See Kay

Saga-On the Loose

Gary Moore-Out in the Fields

Damn Yankees-Coming of Age

The WHO-I Can't Explain

Vanilla Fudge-Keep Me Hangin' On

King's X-Over My Head

Hey cheater...I know what that April Wine song means!
Rats, I tried to sneak that one in. LOL-That is a very classic rock sounding song. Does that mean that radio should never play anything off of Van Halen's For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, lol

You should never play anything off of that VH record 'cause it stinks

I'd say you diversified pretty well.  I'd listen to this station.

Nice Nice!  Some great deep cuts.  Interesting that you pick the Mac Green Manalishi over Priests remake.
