You know, I never really considered Kansas a hard rock band (even though they kind of are) and always thought that, solo, they would be soft rock. Don't know why, it's just something that has always run thru my mind.
Every day when I discuss Kansas with my co-workers, I group them with bands like America, The Culture Club, Air Supply and Yanni. Whenever I do, they have the tendency to slowly creep away, acting like I'm weird or something.
Thankfully, I'm able to hunt them down the next day and start the conversation all over again. I can do that. And I do. Just because.
Seriously though....did you actually come here for a review of this album? From me? Are you kidding?
If you want a review, please read Tageryche's wonderful review HERE.
I just really like this album, Steve Walsh's third solo album, which came out in 2005. This is his third solo output ("Schemer-Dreamer" from 1980 and "Glossolalia" from 2000 being those other two) and I like them all, but this album the mostest since it totally rocks out.
I like my rawk (with a small dose of mellow stuff)!
1. Rise
2. Shadowman
3. Davey And The Stone That Rolled Away
4. Keep On Knockin
5. Pages Of Old
6. Hell Is Full Of Heroes
7. After
8. The River

Weird? You, Jon???? Naaaaaaahh!!!!
I don't know MSoTW, but I'm sure MSoTWMan does with his supernatural ears.
I like the song, though. Kind of 1970's rock, like Bad Company or something.
The start of the Steve Walsh-album made me think of Simple Minds, but then the guitar started and my thoughts went in another direction. Good riff on "Rise". I like the sound of this record. He sings a bit like a cross between Don Henley and Ozzy, and that's a good thing. Best tracks are "Rise", "Shadowman", "Davey...", heck, they're all good!! Good choice, Jon!! This is an AWESOME album. I think I'll buy it!!!
MSoTW Man says:
This week's mystery song is.............................from 1977.
It is by Captain Beyond, once a rival of mine.................
from the album entitled............................................
Dawn Explosion, which my sister had...........................
and the song is called.........................................
Fantasy
This one is in the "okay" file for me. I do like it musically. The best songs to me are Shadowman and Pages Of Old.
Ive listened to this a few times in the marketplace but have never pulled the trigger on purchasing. I dont think I'm ready for that yet now either. I do like the sound and the rockiness on the album though, his progressive nature is present and in fine form, but its just different without Livgren adding that certain something to it.
Nice post!
oh, and by the way. MSOTW-man must have received new powers while I was out because that one was tough and from a band Ive never heard of. So I'm starting to get the sense that he's authentic ... I'm on the MSOTW-man bandwagon!
