Classic Rock Bottom

As the title says, this time two danish bands. You should know both of them, since I've posted music and video's before on this web-site. The D-A-D-album, I bought especially, so that I could post it here for RJhog, who really like the video I posted a few weeks back.

Now, I'm not a big fan of danish bands. The danish bands or artists that I DO like, are SO danish, that only the scandinavien audience likes it and they sing in danish, and I don't want to post that much from those artist here: Gasolin', Shu-Bi-Dua and Sebastian are among the best danish acts ever imo. Then we got a bunch of danish rock-bands, who wants to conquer the world, and somtimes they make a rather good song, but never a great whole album. They are not at all original, and sounds too much like their heroes, like Zeppelin and Beatles. These two bands are among those bands. Oh, and I'm cheating this time, Jon. When RJ and Scott can, so can I!! Both albums were released this month, BUT........the Kashmir-album is a "Best Of".

D-A-D - DIC.NII.LAN.DAFT.ERD.ARK

1. A New Age Moving In

2. I Want What She's Got

3. The End

4. Last Time In Neverland

5. Drag Me To The Curb

The new album from D-A-D, originally called DisneyLand After Dark, formed in '81, as some sort of "cow-punkband". The biggest hit was "Sleeping My Day Away" in '89. I think they have released 12 albums or something. The best one imo, was the heaviest one, "HelpYourSelfish" from 1994. D-A-D IS kind of original in the sound, and it is without a doubt one of the best live-bands in Denmark. I've seen them twice, I think, and it was a party both times.By the way: Doesn't it sound like Danko Jones at the end of the last track?

KASHMIR - KATALOUGE

1.Electrified Love

2. The Cynic

3. She's Made Of Chalk

4. Mom In Love, Daddy In Space

5. Bring Back Superman

Kashmir is one of two danish band, that appeared at the end of the Grunge-wave in the mid-90's. The other band was called Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. Kashmir sound like a cross between Pearl Jam, Zeppelin, Radiohead and probaly a lot of other bands. I didn'r really like them at first, but as the band got older, they have made better music. Notice that David Bowie sings on the track "The Cynic". Bowie said, that he was a fan, and contacted the band, and asked if he could sing on one of their songs.

Yuo can listen to the music here:

danishes..funny.

thought it was a dog poo at first!

Yeah, it's pretty funny. Next time on NMC, I'll show you, what an "american" is in danish

oh-oh

D.A.D--middle thumbs

I liked the second song and that was about it. It's not horrible, but nothing that grabs me.

Kashmir--Thumbs down

All the songs sounded the same. Same geetar sound, that jagged or feedbacky stuff or whatever it was. I'm with Scott, where's the GREATEST HITS?

No danish scale?  I guess Im the only creative one around here...

Yeah. "Creative". That's what you're called.

D.A.D. (Thumbs 67% Up - That's 67 Danishes out of 100)

The riffing is pretty strong.  I, like Scott, didn't like the singing, but only at first.  It got better as it went along.

Will check out the other one later.

Next year-"later"??

I'm very glad you posted this comment, 'cause I had forgotten to go back and listen to this.

Kashmir - Thumbs sideways

I like the first 3 tracks, a good bit actually.  Track 2 gave me a slight Beatles/Cheap Trick vibe.  I've gotten several of those lately.  It went downhill for tracks 4 and 5 though.

Cool! I'm glad, you like the first 3 tracks. So do I. I understand, why you don't like the rest, because those songs are from way back, and this is a band, that actually keeps getting better.

D.A.D. - Bad Craziness! I have No Fuel and Riskin It All. Surprised the band is still around. I was checking other videos on You Tube today from D.A.D. Soft Dogs seemed like a cool album, video. I was surprised by the amount of D.A.D. videos when I started looking.
