SID VICIOUS - MY WAY ("Frank Sinatra")

"My Way" is a song popularized by Frank Sinatra. Its lyrics were written by Paul Anka and set to music based on the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux, with lyrics by Claude François and Gilles Thibault. Comme d'habitude had in turn originally been written in English, titled "For Me". Anka's English lyrics are unrelated to the original French song or the earlier English version. "My Way" is often quoted as the most covered song in history.

Sex Pistols' bassist Sid Vicious did a punk rock version of the song. This version, in which a large body of the words were changed and the arrangement was sped up, charted at No. 7 in the UK in 1978. The orchestral backing was arranged by Simon Jeffes.

TORI AMOS - SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT (Nirvana)

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song by the American rock band Nirvana. It is the opening track and lead single from the band's second album, Nevermind (1991), released on DGC Records. Written by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl and produced by Butch Vig, the song uses a verse-chorus form where the main four-chord riff is used during the intro and chorus to create an alternating loud and quiet dynamic.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" has been covered by numerous artists. One of the first cover recordings was an acoustic piano version by Tori Amos on her 1992 Crucify EP, which Cobain referred to as "a great breakfast cereal version".

Not really a "video". Tori Amos performs the song live at Montreux in 1992. I bought 3 TA-albums in the 90's, first and foremost because I thought she was pretty hot!!

DEVO - SATISFACTION (The Rolling Stones)

"(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" is a song by the English rock band The Rolling Stones, released in 1965. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and produced by Andrew Loog Oldham. Richards's throwaway three-note guitar riff – intended to be replaced by horns – opens and drives the song. The lyrics refer to sexual frustration and the commercialism particular to America.

American New Wave band Devo released their rendition of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" as a single in 1977. Because of the extensive changes Devo had made to the song, they met with Mick Jagger and his lawyer so Mick could give his blessing. During that visit, Jagger said he liked Devo's version. Gerald Casale characterised this meeting as "a setup". After the meeting, he found out that Devo's lawyer told Jagger's lawyer they should approve the song because it would make Jagger a lot of money. Steve Huey of Allmusic stated that the cover version "reworks the original's alienation into a spastic freak-out that's nearly unrecognisable".

THE RAMONES - I DON'T WANNA GROW UP (Tom Waits)

Tom Waits originally recorded this song for his "Bone Machine"-album from 1992. The Ramones did their version of the song in 1995 on the album "Adios Amigos".

SONIC YOUTH - SUPERSTAR ("The Carpenters")

"Superstar" is a 1969 song written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell (with a songwriting credit also given to Delaney Bramlett) that has been a hit for many artists in different genres and interpretations in the years since; the best known version is by the Carpenters in 1971.

Sonic Youth, who always found unlikely inspiration from the Carpenters, did this cover of the song for the 1994 tribute album "If I Were a Carpenter". This version was later on the soundtrack for the 2007 film Juno. It was also featured in the film The Frighteners and in the theatrical trailer for High Tension. It also appeared in professional skateboarder Jerry Hsu's part in "Bag of Suck". Richard Carpenter has expressed his distaste for this version.

A PERFECT CIRCLE - IMAGINE (John Lennon)

"Imagine" is a song written and performed by English musician John Lennon. It was released as a single from his album Imagine in 1971, and was released as a single in the United Kingdom in 1975 in conjunction with the album Shaved Fish. It was inspired by a poem from Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit.
The song received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll; it was ranked the 3rd greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone in its "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

A Perfect Circle covered the song on their 2004 album eMOTIVe.

Sid Vicious (0 Danishes)

Nope, not for me.  The only thing I can think of when I see and hear this is Roseann trying to do the National Anthem.

Tori Amos (2 Danishes)

This is better, but not great.  I have no problem with an artist completely changing up the arrangement of a song, but this doesn't quite sound as good slowed down.  It makes me think of what Chris Cornell did with Billie Jean, which worked really well.  I almost used that one, but I figured most have heard it.

Devo (Won't play)

The Ramones (4 Danishes)

I'm not a Ramones fan in the least, but this is the best cover so far.  Not that I've ever heard the original.  I like the video too.

Sonic Youth (5 Danishes)

I don't care what Richard Carpenter says, that's a great cover.  I really like this one Niels.  The song (not this version), has been in another movie lately, but I can't place it.  Oh, now I remember, Tommy Boy.  Awesome.

A Perfect Cirlcle (2 Danishes)

Not crazy about this cover.  But I do like the video.  Especially the info on the ticker at the bottom.

SID VICIOUS ... 1 danish chewed up and spit back out on the puke stained concrete in the alley behind the punk bar!

Song stunk to high heavens, but the comedic value was priceless!

TORI AMOS ... 1 danish underneath the candelabra getting wax dripped all over it

I'm not a fan of recitals but she gets a single danish for the guts it took to redo this and then actually perform it in front of a crowd.

THE RAMONES ...  2 danishes with long black hairs stuck to the glazing

0 for the song sounding the same as every other Ramones song, but 1 danish because the Ramones are cool, and another danish because the video is cool.

SONIC YOUTH ... No danish for youth!

I think Dick was right.

A PERFECT CIRCLE ... Imagine theres no danishes!

Well imagine no more!

Very interesting listen!

Always a pleasure, Scott

Sid Vicious - You have to be hardcore punk to appreciate this, but I get it! (I'll Give It A Danish)

Tori Amos - Didn't get it! Her interpretation, didn't work for me! (No Dainish)

Devo - The original, is probably, my favorite Stones song, so I'm biased toward any remake to start with. Devo, is well, Devo & for a Devo song, it's ok. For me, just give me the original!  (For Diehard Devo fans, here's a Danish)

Ramones - Hey, it's the Ramones!!! (5 Danishes)

Sonic Youth - It's like you listen, but you can't stop! It has an eerie quality about it! I like it (3 Danishes)

Perfect Circle -  Again, it's got a certain weirdness to it! I like music that has a mysterious side & for me this does! (3 Dainishes)

Thanks Niels, for the journey into the Strange!!!

Thank YOU, Mike.

I guess I'm chopped liver?

"Thank You, Mike"

"Always a pleasure, Scott"

Sid Vicious--2 danii

I've heard this before and it's not bad really. Most of the danii go to the video though since it was pretty funny seeing the "fans" and then the end of the whole thing.

Tori Amos--0 danii

Does nothing for me since I totally dislike Nirvana. Like how she pushed away the mic with her mouth though...

Devo--3 danii

Even though the video won't play, I have this song and it's pretty funny how they re-worked it. Almost totally overboard. But. Not. Quite.

The Ramones--3 danii

Like Scott said: it sounds like every other Ramones song but that's not bad and it's THE RAMONES! I liked the video as well.

Sonic Youth--negative danii. many negative danii

Yuck. Don't remember this in "The Frighteners" (great movie) and don't remember ever seeing the trailer for "High Tension" (awesome movie) but whatever. Kim Gordon did look kinda hot though.

A Perfect Circle--1 danii

The danii is NOT for the cover because that sucks almost as bad as the goo before this one (that really does make sense, just think about it). 1 danii for the video and the video alone.

Weird stuff Niels!
