Classic Rock Bottom

Ahh....Planet P Project. This undertaking from Tony Carey had a minor hit back in 1983 with the song "Why Me?". Whenever this song was played on the radio or the video on MTV, the whole family would get up and dance, dance, dance! We just loved the song so much that, no matter what we were doing, we would drop it and started to dance. We were Wang Chunging before anybody knew what Wang Chunging was.

I was in surgery having a birth defect removed (an external heart for those wondering) when the song came on and my mother grabbed me from the operating table and we started to dance and then my father and 12 brother and 3 sisters joined in and had so much fun twirling and whirling that nobody noticed that the external heart fell off on its own. When the song was over I was tossed back on the operating table and the doctors were amazed that the external heart had disappeared!

There was another time when we were eating little cakes while watching tv and the video came on

HOLD ON!

Hi everyone! This is Scott. I'm taking over this over because this is some of the stupidest garabge I have ever read in my life. Jon's an idiot, pure and simple. Just forget what you've read above and read the REAL post about this fine, fine album.

Here's goes:

Originally released as a double album. Pink World is a war themed effort revolving around a boy who can’t talk. It is very good musically, and in typical Planet P fashion it is heavy on programmed drums and synths, but with nice layers of guitars and quality vocals. Side one introduces us to a boy who can’t talk, and whose room goes pink. We learn about his visions of some sort of Armageddon. The people of the little nowhere town begin to desire the information the boy has, and as we listen to side 2, they all begin to follow him to safety, literally behind a barrier as the pink world comes down. Side 2 is kind of a dark listen, slow and droning as the sheepish people blindly follow the boy who can’t talk...

Side 3 opens with a short instrumental titled Breath, and then goes into a nice rocker title A Perfect Place about a man wanting revolution. I assume the people are still behind the barrier and going a bit stir crazy, Anyway, it appears this guy is a threat to the boy whom all are worshipping at this point, so he is taken away and the boy is praised in the next track. The community pulls together and Armageddon passes, the boy Artie, then leaves them a gift in the orphanage and is never seen again. A new life begins...

Pretty cool stuff actually; Tony Carey does a nice job of not getting to deep in the minutia of a tough subject. I just listened to this again for the first time since I can’t remember when and it still sounds fresh. I remember associating it with The Wall at the time I got it, but I think that’s only because of the interludes, the story, complexity within the music, and the fact that it’s a double album.

Really cool stuff!

Since I like the whole album and it feels like one really long song, no starring of favorite tracks. Deal with it.

Availability: Can be had for around 10 bucks.

MSoTW: Nobody took a guess, I'm thinking Rjhog may know who it is so it's up to him to let everyone in on the secret. This week's track is pretty simple, but might be a bit hard.

This is a great post... The Planet P presence on this page is phenomenal. Since Ive given my feedback already, I'll pass to the rest of bottom dwellers to listen and respond.

Jon - RJ actually knows last weeks MSOTW? Really? Kinda cruel to delay the answer, but the kind RJ will tell us soon I hope.

PS: I know this weeks....
Unbelievable though it may sound, Rjhog knows a song (other than a Kiss song)!
As usual, when I'm not allowed to use Google, I have NO idea who MSoTW is??!! I only think, there's been once or twice, that I've been able to hear who it is, without any help, Simple Minds was easy to me. C'mon, Jon, make it a LITTLE easier, so I'll have a chance. Try some obscure Heavy Metal-band from the NWOBHM-scene from the beginning of the 80's, and I MIGHT have a chance?!

I really like the lost/forgotten album of this week. I hav'nt heard it before, but I'm sure, if I had heard it in the 80's, I would have bought it. Now it sounds a bit dated, but I like it anyway.
Interesting that you are hearing a dated sound. I think I know what your referring. For me the electronic drums in tracks like Pink World sounds a bit dated, but I think that sound can be heard in some contemporary music, so I think it has come back around a bit. I can't cite any particular song because I generally only listen to contemporary music when my 17 year old daughter control the radio in the car...

I thought it sounded really good ...
No clue on the mystery artist.

I have not been aware of Planet P Project (I think Scott had one of their tunes on SHT) before. This is middle of the road for me. It's not bad at all, just not great overall. I do like the atmospheric sound on some of the songs. And I like "What I See","The Stranger" and "A Letter From The Shelter". Those are really cool songs.

Nice post Jon.
What the MSOTW from #16? Jon said you knew that one....
Econoline Crush...but Jon's screwing w/you. I asked him who it was 'cause I liked the song (through a private message), I didn't know it on my own.
Would you have expected anything less from Rjhog?
Never heard of them...
Because they're Canadian?
Oh, give credit where credit is due..Scott hijacked this, so it's all him. I tried to post something but he did something evil which I coludn't work around.

I picked this up on vinyl for a buck today.  I must get it converted and re-check it out.
