This week’s playlist consists of songs pulled off of albums that were put together from unreleased leftovers of other, earlier albums (whether in part or whole). Seems bands have a tendency to leave tracks on the cutting room floor for a variety for reasons. Maybe they don’t fit the theme of the album, maybe the band felt indifferently about the song, sometimes bands change direction mid-recording, or sometimes a written song is more suited for a solo effort. Whatever the reason there has been some great music we potentially would never have gotten to hear, albeit the artists just couldn’t let them go.
But wait! There’s more….
There’s even more variation on the theme I discovered so we may do this in two parts. What I thought would be a romp through Deluxe Editions and piles of Bonus Tracks (which may turn out to be part 2) turned into a discovery of full albums that were compiled from leftover songs. Take The Rolling Stones Tattoo You, one of their best ever (arguably) but it’s comprised wholly of set-aside potentially throw away songs. Posthumous releases like Led Zeppelins Coda get put together this way as well. Who knows what’s out there waiting for us to hear!! Furthermore, I thought I would discover that these full albums would be more recent releases, but that’s also isn’t true, turns out bands/artists have been doing this forever, well for a long time anyway.. Check it out....
Enjoy!

The LRB song was really good, but the tapping got really, really annoying. Sometimes it seems that it (annoyingly) belongs, other times it doesn't. Song is nice. Don't have it as far as I know.............................so I'll check.............and.....no, I don't have it.
Have that Toto album, therefore have this song! Nice song, haven't listened to this album for awhile so it gives me an idea.......
Have that Stevie Nicks album, therefore I have this song! Fantastic album.
Don't have this PT album, therefore I don't have this song, right? WRONG! It's on a comp album of his that I have. Cool song.
Lillian Axe released "Fields Of Yesterday" in the late '90's which was an album of outtakes and is really good.
Queen has a few, some that were B-sides only, if that counts. Could make an album with those songs which would be cool.
I go cut grass now.
4/4, perfect score!
That ticking sound is annoying, but I can also find it on Elefantes "On My Way To The Sun", harder to hear it but its there. I think you're referring to that Queen release titled "Forever" and the reviews are not all that good, not that the songs are bad but their not very different than whats released officially, so I stayed away from that one.
Thanks for chiming in!
No, it's not "Forever". There's only a couple of new songs on that.
I'm talking about songs that were b-sides or were never released. Some of the songs on that comp are slightly different than the originals, but they're really not "new".
Maybe I'll make a Queen album of those songs and post it as an L/F. YEAH!!!!
Missed this one. I wanna listen, but I don't have time tonight. I know you guys have an unhealthy dislike for all things regarding Bruce Springsteen, but his version of Because The Night was finally released a year or so ago on The Promise, which, if I remember correctly, is an album of stuff he originally recorded during the Darkness On The Edge Of Town sessions. Not sure why I mentioned this because I know you and Jon couldn't care less.
mention away, who cares what we care about! Information is and anecdotes are always interesting even when they involve artist I don't like
I don't believe care is a word you are familiar with.
Don't know, why I missed this as well? Maybe you missed a VOTW? I'm pretty strict that way If I don't remember in-correctly, you missed the Elvis Costello-VOTW?!
LRB - Now this is boring - both music and lyrics. A true leftover.
TOTO - This is more like it! This is pretty good, even though the chorus reminds me of another song - not a Toto-song. Who's the singer on this one? Kimball??
SN - I've heard all of this album - but only once. I wasn't impressed. I've never been a fan of her voice. She's good-looking, or was, but that voice is not what I think a woman singing, should sound like. Try Kate Bush or Anneke Van Giersbergen. This is a boring song. On the Mac-albums, I usually also skip her songs.
Townshend - Yeah, I've heard this album as well. I prefer the Who's version of this song, even though I kinda like Townshends voice better than Daltreys. But The Who's version rocks much harder. Yep, those two songs (and more) should had appeared on the double-album "Lifehouse", instead of not appearing on Who's Next, and it would had been one of the very best albums of alltime.
