The Cult--Choice Of Weapon (May 2012)

The Cult's first album in five years, and I find it a bit underwhelming. However, I did find their last album "Born Into This" underwhelming as well, until I revisited it recently. Maybe this is another album that needs to grow on me, but for now, I'm not into it. However, I do like the song "Lucifer", strangely enough.

Wishbone Ash--Elegant Stealth (November 2011)

And you thought I was done! HA! "Elegant Stealth" is the latest release from Wishbone Ash and if you've been following my run thru some selections from the Wishbone Ash catalog, I think you know what to expect. Yes, some people (who shall remain nameless) will still have an issue with Andy Powell's singing, but you can't deny the twin geetar work, which is a bit more prevalent here.

THE CULT ... Two Thumbs whose thetan levels are way down!!  (Get it?)

Have I ever mentioned that I'm a Greatest Hits fan of this band?  Not sure, but I gotta weird Deja-Vu thing going on when I thought about that.  Well, the songs posted on this one aren't changing that anytime soon.  The first two tracks kind of, oh I don't know, stunk?  yeah that's it.  I didn't seem to mind Amnesia, but again, that's some sort of weird Deja-Vu because I cant remember the tune very well.  Oh yeah the last two tunes... eh...  Im gonna scratch this one off my Amazon Recommendation list.

WISHBONE ASH ... Two Thumbs way up!

Right off the bat, I love the production!  Opening track is very very nice!  Your right, no smoking geetars just nice solid songwriting and solid melodic paying.  Give It Up (Third WA track), real nice feel to this one!  Heavy Weather gives us the progressive feel we all come to love about Argus and the geetars are really cool on this track, but its a bit different than what we've heard int he past, not such a bad thing in this case!  And you close it out with a solid, funky, somewhat progressive, geetar driven track - best geetar work can be heard on the final cut.  NICE!  This ones on my purchase radar!

Tom Cruise reference!

I still say "Clan Destiny" is an excellent album.

Oh, and the ratings for this WA album:

5 stars=19

4 stars=2

3 stars=1

2 stars=0

1 star=0

And the average is:

4.8 stars (so 5!)

THE CULT - 3 out of 6

If you're a Cult-fan, you will probably like this pretty much, but I was never really a Cult-fan. As I've said before, I hate Astbury's voice. But it ain't THAT bad, and I'm surprised, that they can make such a "good" album in 2012. My favorite Cult-track is and will allways be "She Sells Sanctury".

I have The Cult, but didn't care for it at all.  However, I will listen to this some time this week and see if that changes.

WISHBONE ASH - 3.5 out of 6

I don't think he sings as bad as Roine Stolt, but I agree about the similarity. He sounds very english? I allways thought, that Wishbone Ash were americans? The first track is pretty good, but then it goes down hill. This is a pretty boring style imo. The guitars are okay. The 3rd track reminds me a bit of .....zzzzzzz..... The Eagles. It's not THAT bad, and if I'm having trouble sleeping to night, I might just play some of these tracks again. No, just kidding. Oh, good ending to track 4. The last track is also pretty good. Nice guitar indeed. Maybe one of the best guitar-solo's so far this year. Also a kind of a proggy track. Overall not really my style, but I can understand why you like them, Jon.

They're English.

The Cult (Thumbs Up)

I didn't really care for this at first, but I liked it much better this time around.  Of course, the only song I didn't care for here was Lucifer.  But the rest were much better than I thought they were.  I heard some elements of the same overall sound of Sonic Temple, which I do like.  It's almost a mystical sound.

Wishbone Ash (Thumbs Sideways)

I love this band musically.  The guitar solo at the end of that last song is incredible.  And the song Give It Up is really, really good.  But I just can't get past the vocals.  I'm stuck there.  I know you guys are okay with 'em, but I'd like to hear a better vocalist for this band (just my opinion).
