"Born In The U.S.A."? Really? I thought, everybody hated Springsteen around here
Another one of those albums, that I had to buy, and it wasn't bad, it just annoyed me, that the ones with no musical-taste at all, thought that Springsteen was the Mesiah. Total overplayed album!
I don't think, that I ever heard all of the W.A.S.P.-album. That was a complete waste of my money!
WASP sucked. I had their first album and it was suckiness to the highest degree possible.
Then:
1. Isolation - Toto
2. Defenders of the faith - Priest
3. Toothe and nail - dokken
4. The unforgettable fire - U2
5. The Warning - Queensryche
Now:
1. Isolation - Toto
2. Grace Under Pressure - Rush
3. TUF - U2
4. Ride The Lightning - Metallica
5. Slide It In - Whithesnake
Saxon's "Crusader" was crap!
Maiden's "Powerslave" was okay at the time, but now it seems like the first really weak Maiden-album. Nice tour, though.
Dio's "The Last In Line" was a big dissapointment after "Holy Diver". Only the title-track was okay. Nice album-cover, though.
"Stay Hungrig" from Twisted Sister was total crap as well, but it was very populare. Nice video's, though.
I think, that the first couple of new albums, I bough that year was "1984", "Love at first sting","slide it in" and "Perfect Strangers"?! They were all okay, but LAFS I got tired of fast, while SII grew through the years. "1984" was good compared to "diver down", but it annoyed me, that it became that populare. EVERYBODY loved "Jump". "Perfect Strangers" only had and have two good tracks. Never was a Purple-fan.
I didn't buy Metallica's "ride the lightning" until January '85. It was kind of too Heavy for me in '84, I think.
I also bought Pretty Maids debut-album "Red, Hot and Heavy", and thought it was total crap!
I also thought, at the time, that "Reckless" was good, but now I think it kind of sucks!! I've seen Adams 3 times in concert, but I don't really like his music.
"Out Of The Cellar" was okay, but Ratt never was that great imo. The singer sucks!
"In Rock We Trust" was kind of okay. At the time, I thought it was better than "Mean Streak", but I think, that I WANTED it to be good, because now it stinks. I especially liked "rock'n'roll's gonna change the world".
Foreigners "Agent Provocateur" was not very good imo. I don't know, why I bought it.
Wasn't it in '84, that "The Firm" released their debut-album? It was a big dissapointment too!
The weakest year so far in the 80's imo.
Really? I thought Stay Hungry was actually quite good.
I didn't realize it until I started looking back at what was released in 1984, but I tend to agree with Niels that it was the weakest year of releases in the 80's up to that point.
However, I do think one of the greatest songs ever was released that year (Boys Of Summer).
Nowadays, I think that '84 was a turning-point in the 80's, where the greatest NWOBHM-bands such as Maiden, Priest and especially Saxon had topped artistically, and would only get worse and worse from now on. For me personally, it was a wake-up call, that some of the coming great bands, like Queensryche, dokken and Metallica were american bands, so for me personally it was the start of NWOAHMtv
But also the year, where I began to tire of HM, and started looking elswhere, as in U2, Toto, The Alarm, Simple Minds, The Cure, The Cult, John Mellemcamp and the likes.
They had make-up on, just like KISS
Oh, and Depeche Mode, of course.
There are no birthdays today
