Classic Rock Bottom

I was fairly excited for my turn to do the NMC again.  Last time I got to trump Jon and RJ because the Iron Maiden release came out during my week.  This time Heart released a new one and I was really wanting to do it again, but alas, I listened to Red Velvet Car and totally did'nt get into it.  So I havent purchased that one yet, but I will give it another chance later...

I think I'm a day early on this as well, but with hurricane Earl approaching the Carolinas, I figure I better post in case I lose power.

What I do have is 3 really strong and interesting releases.  One of which has already caused a bit of discussion, good and bad.  If you disagree, then at the very least I have selected 3 really really cool album covers!  So here we go...

CREED - FULL CIRCLE (Ocotober 2009)

1.  Overcome

2.  Rain

3.  Full Circle

4.  A Thousand Faces

5.  The Song You Sing

Not sure this was the commercial success and comeback they hoped for, but I like this one, alot!  Mark Termonti is fabulous and Stapp sounds good as well.  Though the songwriting is getting a bit softer, I still liked the effort and think it fits well into their catalog.

SCORPIONS - STING IN THE TAIL (March 2010)

6.  Raised On Rock

7.  Sting In The Tail

8.  Turn You On

9.  No Limit

10. The Best Is Yet To Come

Their final effort.  I really love Humanity Hour 1 and had hoped that they would continue in a similar style, but this is a return to the 80's based riffs that propelled them into superstardom and stadiums. Pandering?  Maybe, but it worked on me, I love this ...

SAGA - THE HUMAN CONDITION (May 2009)

11. Step Inside

12. Hands of Time

13. A Number With A Name

14. Let It Go

15. Crown of Thorns

OK, I may be strecthing the rules on releases being a year old, but I was really counting on Hearts new one to be good, and I really wanted to share this release anyway.  Saga is rejuvenated with a new singer, Rob Moratti, who brings a new sound and tone to the band.  The only complaint I have is that Hands Of Time sounds almost exactly like Silent Lucidity, but thats not such a bad thing, just thought it was little too close..

Just keepin it real, know wha' I'm sayin'?

Aw man, I'm really looking forward to checking out Saga. Creed's latest just didn't do it for me, but I love Tremonti's playing (my wife just loves Tremonti) and I think I'll give it another chance, starting with these 5 tunes. I loved Humanity Hour 1 from the Scorpions as well, but unlike Scott, I can't find anything interesting about the new one. I was toying with putting it up, but I'm glad you did Scott, because I was having a hard time picking 5 decent songs. Now I don't have to. I'll give this a listen a little later.
Awesome... I figured the Creed and Scopions would spark conversation, good and bad...
As far as Creed goes, I really, really like their debut. I also like Human Clay a good bit. With Weathered, I think they started to lose something, but there were still a few strong songs (like Bullets).

I think I have a bit of a problem with Scott Stapp. This dude had it all with this band, and he thought that he was the band (at least that's the image as I see it, though I may be wrong). When he went solo, the band found another vocalist (Myles Kennedy, who is awesome) and put a very cool band together (Alter Bridge). Two very good albums followed, Stapp's solo effort tanked, and just like that they reunite for a new album and tour. But, as long as it doesn't interfere with Alter Bridge, I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
Lesson learned for Stapp, from what Ive heard he is contrite about it and somewhat humbled. As he should be. He gets a second chance in my book.
I hadn't read that, but I'll agree with you. If you learn from the situation and it makes you a better person, then I'll also give a second chance. I have the Creed album, so I'm gonna listen to it right now.
Let me add to this that I do think Stapp is a very, very good vocalist. A lot of bands wish they had a vocalist as good as Stapp.
Sting in the Tail was excellent!
Biggest letdown of the year has to be "Sting in The Tail". Totally underwhelming for a (supposed) last album. One good song, "Slave Me", the rest just there. Especially a downer after "Humanity Hour, Vol. 1" and "Unbreakable".

As for Creed, never liked 'em, so there you go.

And Saga...got my interest peaked on this one. Been meaning to buy it but keep forgetting. Now I can listen and see if I really do want to shell out some bucks. Just a shame that you're running out of stuff and have to go back to May of '09....that gives me a chance for Iron Maiden payback!
I got some more material for my next turn or two, but I really wanted to get this Saga out there, plus I think we should relax the 1 year requirement to ~1.5... But I totally gifted the Heart album to whoever is next. Your welcome!!!
It must be Jon's lucky day, 'cause I've already got #10 ready to go, and Heart will not make an appearance there (although I did buy it).

I think the one year is gonna be relaxed to any thing from 2009, and if you have something from 2008 that has not been followed up by that band, I see no reason why you can't include it as well. My next one will have an album from June 2009, so I say go for it.
Bah humbug. I do have a list of stuff, Heart may or may not make it. I guess you'll just not know for a couple weeks. But I can tell you that it will most probably having something from THAT band, something from THAT OTHER band and some other band. Take you're best guesses!

How about 2 have to be from the current year, and 1 can be from up to two years?
