Classic Rock Bottom

VOTW#24, just like the date of Christmas eve, but there will be no Christmas video's this time around, and probably not the rest of december. If you want to see "Holiday-Video's", go to the "Holiday-Group", Jon started yesterday. There you can give your own examples of favorite holiday-video's. Here we'll have (NOT as usual) 5 new video's and 2 classic, one with some kind of cheesefactor. Please give your ratings when you're ready:

1. BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE - BITTERSWEET MEMORIES

The welsh Metal-band with a new video directed by Nigel Dick (Sorry, but that's his name!).
The band was formed in 1988, and this is from their newest album, "Fever" released earlier in 2010.

2. CHIODOS - CAVES

The american band, Chiodos, formed in 2001 in Michigan. This is from their new album, "Illuminaudio", released in oct. 2010. Their 3rd album so far.

3. MR. BIG - UNDERTOW

The new video from Mr. Big. They will released a new album on january 21, 2011, their first album of new material in nearly 10 years.

4. THE SWORD - LAWLESS LANDS

From the album, "Warp Riders", that you may have heard in an earlier NMC. Thanks to RJhog, to point this and the Mr.Big-video out to me.

5. ILL NINO - AGAINST THE WALLS

The american "Latin Metal-band" formed in 1998 in New Jersey. This is the latest single from their 2010-album, "Dead New World".

6. CHEAP TRICK - DREAM POLICE

The second band, after 2-3 years as a KISS-fan, that I REALLY became a fan of, in 1979. I bet you know the song/video. How would you rate it?

7. BRITNEY FOX - GIRL'S SCHOOL

The american "Glam-band" with a video from 1988, another great year for cheesy video's, or what?

Oh my, Niels, this VOTW looks absolutely awesome. I don't know if I'll get to watch it tonight, but I can't wait to rate this episode...
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE... (1 point)
There was a profile view of the singer with bright light silhouetting him, it looked like he had boogers hanging out of his nose. Not a good angle! Seriously ... I really liked the classic rock feel of the guitars mixed with the modern production. I didn't like the singer, boogers and all. I'll go with .5 points for the song, and .5 for the video, close but not quite purchase material...

CHIODOS... (1 point)
Looks like were performing on the Bonneville Salt Flats! I know that place, its a couple hours south of my home town! I can dig that. Auto deduction for cookie monster vocals! I liked some of the elements of the tune though, nice sound though. .5 for the video and .5 for the song.

MR. BIG... (.5 points)
I heard this the other day on another site and didn't care for it, so this is my second listen and you know what? I might be alone on this one, but I still don't like it. Its bland and uninteresting. But I will give them props for their staying power, ... in Japan! .5 points all around.

THE SWORD... (2 points)
I remember this from the NMC. I liked this! I love the retro sound and feel to this as well. This was the track I enjoyed the most in the NMC as well. 1 point for a cool video and 1 point for cool track! I need to listen to these guys again kinda feels like they are growing on me...

ILL NINO... (.5 points)

American Latin band from New Jersey. hahahaha... Are they playing the same forest that Avatar was filmed in? I don't really get the song but the video is OK. .5 points.

CHEAP TRICK... (2 points)
I have one studio album from Cheap Trick and their Greatest Hits package (or one of them)! Guess which studio album I own? I like this. Its still awesome!

BRITNEY FOX... (1.5 points with a cheese factor of 3)

Wow! Did you see that girls huge... walkman? This band suffered from coming to the party a bit late, being a bit too ACDC-ish, and a debut album that was just ok, but they actually had some pretty solid releases after this album. Also, its hard to say that a class full of hot school girls is cheesy! .5 for the tune, 1 for the video! And a low cheese factor of 3 for the bands costumes and huge freakin' hair.

As usual.. Enjoyed your post very much!!!
Bullet For My Valentine--(-1 points)
Song kind of sucked, video made no sense. Did he lose the love of his life at a shopping mall? And weakest use of a baseball bat, ever. Boogers were funny though.

Chiodos--(0 points)
Song was ok, didn't like the U2 geetar sound, but it was fine when the song kicked into overdrive. Video was meh, what's with the guitarist wearing woman pants?

Mr. Big--(1 point)
Nver was a huge fan of Mr Big way back when, maybe liked a couple songs. However, have always liked Paul Gilbert that guy can play! Actually like this song, video was ok for what it was.

The Sword--(2 Points)
Would be interesting to get the WHOLE saga when they're done. Everything about the video seemed to be a throwback...band looked cooly bored, special effects kind of old-school and the band held swords at the end, tacky but COOL tacky. And the rocket ship pooped! Song is great as well.

Ill Nino--(.5 points)
Song decent, video ok I guess. Will give it .5 because there's bongos and the drummer looks like he's having a grand old time. What was in the lake? That kind of looked like the hand from "Prince Of Darkness". The devil? Or the JERSEY devil?

Cheap Trick--(2 points)
"I'll never eat a double cheeseburger before bed again"...words I live by to this day. Think this would have been a promo video, good stuff. One of my favorite Cheap Trick albums (and the only one Scott owns?).

Britny Fox--(2 points, cheese factor 3)
I must admit, I like the song back then and like it now. Something about the drumming set it apart from other bands at that time. As for the video, there's some drumstick twirling, the singer points at the camera, and hair but really not a lot of chest..err cheese.
1. N/A

2. N/A

3. Mr. Big - 1 point. Video kind of run of the mill, song halfway decent though not killer.

4. N/A

5. N/A

6. Cheap Trick - 2 points. Love this band!

7. Britny Fox 2 point for song 10 points for cheesy, but in a good way. I LOVED this video back in the day.
Bullet For My Valentine (0.5 points)

I like the soaring lead guitar sound. I've heard it in a couple of other songs by this band, so the potential is there. But the vocalist is very average. The video gets 0 points. It doesn't move me in one way or another.

Chiodos (-1 point)

Other than the drums, the song blows, so -0.75 points. The video gets -0.25 points. What's with the guitar player? The short pants? The air guitar solo during what sounded like a keyboard solo?

Mr. Big (1.5 points)

I'm not, nor have I ever been, a Mr. Big fan. But, this is easily the best song so far. Good lead vocals, very good backing vocals, nice guitar work, outstanding bass work (what one would expect from Sheehan). One full point for the song, 0.5 points for the video. It's okay, the band has probably grown up, looking more professional these days. I will probably buy this album when it's released.

The Sword (2 points)

I like the video. It's definitely throwback/retro with the graphics and such. The song absolutely rocks! I have this album but have spent no time with it. That's gonna change this week. Man, did I say this is a killer song? One full point for each.

Ill Nino (1.25 points)

I sort of like the song, so 0.75 points. Their sound reminds me of Nonpoint, a band that I do like a good bit. Something about the drummer cracks me up. The video is fair, so 0.5 points for it. Hey Scott, at least it's not set in an abandoned warehouse...

Cheap Trick (2 points)

Dream Police rules! Cheap Trick rules! This band, even with it's goofiness (Bun and Rick), just oozes cool. I just don't understand how anyone can "not" like this band.

Britney Fox (1 point / Cheese Factor 10)

Is that Mrs. Ballbricker? Are you sure that's not Cinderella? But seriously, I can't say I like the band or the song on its own merit, but the cheesy-ass video works well for me. Twenty year old chicks dressed up like school girls, when exactly will that not work?
BULLETS FOR MY VALENTINE (1 point)

An okay song/video. Not really my style. (0.5/0.5)

CHIODOS (1.5 points)

I rather liked this one. If it had'nt been for "The cookie monter vocals", I would have given the song 1 point. (0.75/0.75)

MR. BIG (1.5 points)

I totally agree with RJhog, on this one. It's probably the best Mr. Big-song, I've heard, and I've never really liked them, but this one rocks. I may also buy this album. (1/0.5)

THE SWORD (0 points)

Hmmm, I guess, I'm the only one, who does'nt really like this band. Both song and video bored me.

ILL NINO (1 point)

I like somthing about this song/video, but that drummer did anoy me. (0.5/0.5)

CHEAP TRICK (2 points)

This is about as classic, as it gets in my book!! AWESOME band (at that time, anyway) and a cool video. If you do'nt own the first three CT-albums, GET OUT AND BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!

BRITNEY FOX (1.5 points, cheesefactor 6)

I enoyed this one. I did'nt thought, that I would, but I did. Well, not the singer, what a dreadfull voice!!
Cheesy video but for it's time, it was good too.
