This time with video's from DEF LEPPARD, MACAURLEY SCHENKER BAND, MICHAEL MONROE, VON HERTZEN BROTHERS, ABOVE SYMMETRY, AS LIKELY AS NOT and BAD CITY.

MICHAEL MONROE - '78

This album's got an EXCELLENT review in Classic Rock Magazine (9 out of 10). Just listen to this: "You imagine Axl Rose listen to this album, then cock an ear to "Chinese Democrazy", sigh and then stab himself in the leg with a sharpened pencil", and "This year's high watermark has already been set by this album". Hmmmmm, I won't go as far as that, but you can hear for yourself in this week's NMC.


VON HERTZEN BROTHERS - ANGEL'S EYES

Just like Michael Monroe, this band comes from Finland. This is from their new album "Stars Aligned". Also an album, that got a great review in Classic Rock Magazine (9/10).


ABOVE SYMMETRY - TRACES INSIDE

Aspera is a progressive metal band from Norway. They are signed to InsideOut Records and have a record called Ripples which was released on the 25th of January in Europe and the 26th of January in the United States.
In 2010, another band called Aspera threatened them with legal action, prompting them to change their name to 'Above Symmetry'




AS LIKELY AS NOT - MY LAST CONFESSION

I do think, this band is from sweeden, and therefore I only need a band from Denmark, to make it a REAALY scandinavien edition of VOTW, but no, not this time around.


BAD CITY - TAKE ME FOR A RIDE

I WAS looking for a video for the song "Call Paul Stanley", but I could'nt find one, so therfore you'll get this, by the same band, from an album they released last year.


MACAURLEY SCHENKER GROUP - GIVE ME YOUR LOVE

When I saw Def Leppard in '88, MSG were the support, and had just released this album. Man, those were the days.


DEF LEPPARD - FOOLIN'

You all know this one, but it IS one of the classic video's, and it's from one of the best rock-albums ever. I also saw Leppard on this tour in '83, and got almost deaf on my left ear, after a guitarsolo. I also shook hands with Steve Clark that night. That was before he almost made me half-deaf, of course.

MSG (McAuley-Schenker Group) - 2 points. I loved this band from the second I hear the first album and all three studio albums with McAuley on vocals were awesome in my book.

 

McAuley now sings for Survivor.

Thought it had a promising start and then he started to sing and the lyrics being so cliche was really bothersome to me.  Kinda makes me think less of Classic Rock Magazine - 9 out of 10, really?  Is the state of Classic Rock that dire?

Weird, but I liked the keyboards in the song and the guitar solo had a nice retro feel to it, but the rest was not enough to carry the song into listenable range.

BAD CITY ... .333333333334 points

Not bad, not special, not great, but defintely listeanble. Of course a hot girl in a fast car helps the video as well.  I'll give them a third of point mostly for the video being interesting due to the aforementioned hot chick and those last 30 seconds.

This is terrible all the way around.  I don't like the song at all.  What in the world is Classic Rock Magazine thinking?  And the video?  Awful.  Do you think that all 5 or 6 of 'em could get just a little closer?

 

Def Leppard (2 Points)

This is a great, great song off of a great, great album.  Niels, if you would have gotten deaf in your left ear, you could have changed your name to Def Lefty, Def Leppard's biggest fan.  The video is so cheesy, I'll give it a 10 on the CF scale.  However, this is one cool band, so who cares if it's cheesy?  At least Phil Collen has a shirt on.

Love the video.  It's a little cheesy, but not as much so as DL.  The camera girls are quite yummy.  The song is just okay to me.  It's very much an 80's hair band song, and I'm not at all saying that's always a bad thing.  Didn't this band do a song called Anytime, or something like that?  That's a fantastic song.

Me like. Reminds me of Hanoi Rocks for some reason....oh yeah. That's why. Docking half point for video because it was just performance, but a cluster performance. Now can't wait to hear what Niels has posted off this album!

Actually this song MIGHT grow on me but the bhair bugs the poo out of me. I know, it shouldn't, but it does. Maybe someone will get this album and post some songs and I'll listen to it an like it. So maybe I should bump this up 1/2 point.....nah, it's the hair. Still staying at zero. But zero with POTENTIAL.

 

As Likely As Not--0 points

Just doesn't do it for me..but I do like talking to chicks with the CM voice. It turns them on. Really! Just sounds like I've heard this before, the voice, the start/stop of the music. Nothing really new here. Drummer's pretty good though.

 

Bad City--1 point to the negative

Is the lead singer a guy or girl?  Song blows, it's just pop metal and I thought that had died. Giving a point for the lady passenger, she be a'ight. And one of the guitarists did that stupid leg kick crap so I like them even less. Wish the video ended like "The Devil's Rejects" or "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry". Alas, it was not to be.

Oh, and thanks Rjhog for reminding me...any band that has a song title with any member of Kiss mentioned really sucks. Therefore, I amend my score for Bad City to negative 1.5 points. Half point for the lady (not the singer).

Von Hertzen Brothers (N/A)

Video not available, which stinks because I really wanted to see it.  I like what I read about this band in the current Classic Rock Mag.  I'll try to find it on youtube after I'm finished with these.

I don't like the video, but the song is oh so close.  I'm not gonna give it a point, but it's not bad.  I'm struggling with the vocals just a bit.  

 

As Likely As Not (0 Points)

I was gonna give 1 point for the video, 'cause for some reason I like it.  But the band's name is so lame, I'm taking the point back.  Once again, musically the song is pretty cool, but those cookie monster vocals just don't cut it for me.

 

Bad City (0 Points)

Okay, I like the verses, but the chorus is dreadful.  Usually I'll give a point if the video has a hot girl in it, but not this time.  I wanna see more than her face, and that only happened at the very end of the video.  The singer does look like a girl.  The sucky thing is that I own this CD.
