Classic Rock Bottom

This time video's from: Mötley Crüe, Anthrax, TNT, Stevie Nicks, Warrant, Black Stone Cherry and "Who Cares"( Tony Iommi, Ian Gillan etc.)

STEVIE NICKS - SECRET LOVE

"Secret Love" is the first single from Stevie Nicks' upcoming studio album In Your Dreams to be released on May 3, 2011. It is her first original single in ten years. "Secret Love" was released on January 13, 2011 via digital download, although when pre-ordering In Your Dreams through Nicks' website, fans will receive an instant download of the track.
Nicks originally wrote the song in 1976 and recorded a demo for Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album, Rumours, but it did not make the cut for the album.

BLACK STONE CHERRY - WHITE TRASH MILLIONAIRE

Black Stone Cherry is an American rock band formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky. They are signed to Roadrunner Records. The band consists of Chris Robertson (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitar), Ben Wells (rhythm and lead guitar, backing vocals), Jon Lawhon (bass guitar, backing vocals), and John Fred Young (drums, backing vocals). Black Stone Cherry has released two studio albums and three EPs, and has charted six singles on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks charts.
On March 9, via Facebook, the band announced the title of the upcoming album to be Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea due to be released on May 31. The first single is titled "White Trash Millionaire" and was released at the end of March.

WHO CARES (Tony Iommi, Ian Gillan a.m,) - OUT OF MY MIND

Tony Iommi, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Jason Newsted and Nicko McBrain have recorded two songs to fiance the rebuilding of a music school in Gyumri, Armenia, "Out of my mind" and "Holy Water" were released in download and on CD on may 6.

TNT - REFUGEE

"Refugee", the new video from Norwegian/British hard rockers TNT, can be viewed below.
When TNT's Ronni Le Tekrø (guitar) and Tony Mills (vocals) wrote the song, they were inspired by refugees in Toten and their invisibility in society.
The track and its theme aroused the enthusiasm of the Norwegian Refugee Council and a collaboration ensued. This resulted in a video that presents both the band live on stage and refugee issues with the NRC in large parts of the world.
Both parties hope the video will increase the focus on some of the most hopeless situations refugees experience and thus generate financial support for this work.
The clip, which tool a few months to complete, will be used worldwide by the NRC, the UN, and TNT networks worldwide.
Commented TNT: "This video is one of the last things our beloved keyboardist Dag Stokke participated in before he left us April 26, 2011. We dedicate the video to the memory of our beloved Dag Stokke for his love, his friendship and his tireless work for TNT, as well as all the world's people who are on the run! We lit the peace of Dag Stokke memory!"

WARRANT - LIFE'S A SONG

"Life's A Song" comes off the band's new album, "Rockaholic," which will be released in North America on May 17th through Frontiers Records.
In a recent interview with the Phoenix New Times' "Up On The Sun" blog, Warrant/ex-Lynch Mob singer Robert Mason stated about the new material, "We really took our time, and, through a couple years of doing 'fly' dates, we kinda said, well, the band works, we're all doing it for the right reasons, we're all really happy on stage. It's great playing this legacy of music, and the fans love it, so why not [write some new songs] — but we were careful about it. We didn't just throw a record together. We test-marketed a couple of these songs live last summer, just springing them on the audiences. 'Hey this is something you've never heard before,' and by the end of the song, everyone is singing along, or buying into it. So we figured we should put the record out."

ANTHRAX - MADHOUSE

"Madhouse" is a song by the American heavy metal band Anthrax. It was released as the only single from their second album, Spreading the Disease. The song is an up-tempo time signature with heavy distorted guitar riffs. The song has become a staple of live concerts, and has also appeared on Anthrax's "best of" album, Anthrology: No Hit Wonders (1985-1991). In 2009 it was named the 46th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. (HA HA HA)!!!

MÖTLEY CRÜE - LIVE WIRE

"Live Wire" is the debut single by the American heavy metal band Mötley Crüe released from their 1981 debut album Too Fast for Love. The video was directed by the members of Mötley Crüe themselves, showcasing the bands exotic stage theatrics, such as Nikki Sixx setting himself on fire (due to lack of money to perform on stage pyrotechnics) and Mick Mars drooling blood (an ode to idol, KISS' bassist Gene Simmons). The single was released on August 16, 1982. In May 2006 it was ranked #17 on VH1's list of the 40 greatest metal songs of all time.

Stevie Nicks - 0 Points. Sad to say that I didn't like the video but worse off, the song is kind of weak.
Ooooh...cool. I have the Steve Nicks album comin', the BSC album pre-ordered. I will give each of these a listen/watch throughout the week!

Stevie Nicks (1 point)

I'm gonna give this a point because it's Stevie.  She's classic.  The video is okay, nothing particularly great.  But is the guitar player the guy from the Eurythmics?  Dave Stewart maybe?  I seem to remember that she was writing with him.  The song is definitely not Rumours material.  The reason that I don't particularly like it is that the local radio station is already playing it 2-3 times per day, and I have to listen to it all day at work on the overhead speakers.

Black Stone Cherry (2 points)

Hell yeah!!!  "Count your cash and kiss my ass"!  Awesome.  I can't effing wait 'til this album comes out.  That song is cool and I love the video.  Great performance and awesome cars to boot.  The only thing that would have improve it would have been some chicks.

Who Cares (2 points)

I kind of like this.  The song grew on me as it went on.  I think the turning point was the breakdown right before the guitar solo.  That was cool.  And I like the video.  Just a "making of" video, no special effects, no silly plot, just some rock legends making a record.  I'd really like to hear how this song would sound nestled within about 8 other tracks on a freakin' album.

TNT (2 points)

I like the video.  I like videos that support a cause, as long as they aren't to cheesy.  I waffled some on the song, but I like the geetar work so much, I said screw it, I'm giving this 2 full points.  I'm throwing around a lot of 2's tonight.

Warrant (2 points)

Okay, Niels, you are on a hot streak with your picks this week.  Hey, I'm no fan of Warrant.  I heard this song on the radio last week and I kinda liked it.  Now I definitely like it.  It's a song that would be easy to cheese up with the lyrics, and it comes close in a couple of spots, but overall it works for me.  The vocalist is good, I may have to look up some Lynch Mob stuff.  The video was cool too.

Anthrax (2 points)

This was a lot better than I was expecting.  The vocals were much better than I expected.  I really dig the video too.  All of the "patients" jumping around was cool.  The drummer cracked me up, he was pretty subdued for a heavy metal drummer.

Motley Crue (2 points)

Let's face it, this (and the rest of the debut album) is easily the best thing the Crue ever laid down.  Even Vince (DUI) Neil sounds good.  It's raw and mean.  If what they did over the rest of their career was considered growth, they should have definitely stagnated.  And cowbell rules!

My favorite VOTW ever Niels.  Outstanding job.

Awesome! 13 out of 14 points!! Thank you very much!

STEVIE NICKS ... 2 points
I love the track!  Ive heard a few songs that were not included on Rumors and they would have made a great follow up album for them.  And congrats to Stevie!  She looks and sounds great still after all these years.  She gets full points from me, I like the song and the video, while just ok, still makes me smile to see some of my favorite classic artists still putting there all into it!

BLACK STONE CHERRY ... 1 point
Kinda reminds me of a country song with down tuned and distorted guitars.  The lyrics would totally work for a country artist.  I cant give them points for that, cause I dont like that style.  But the music is good and the video was a nice straight ahead performance piece, albeit, at the dump (yes I get the connection).  Where did you say they were from?  Kentucky?  OK, now it makes sense to me...

WHO CARES ... 1 point
Never seen McBrain play such a slow tempo.  It looks like hes having to try real hard to keep the beat.  hahahaha.  I like this, but I dont love it.  I hear the Sabbath, and Purple influences alot, and thats what I like.  Give these guys a few montsh in the studio and I bet they could crank out some real great work.

TNT ... 1 point for the geetarists
This band gets a lot of attention on the Europena Classic rock web sites.  Ive often wanted to check them out.  Now I know whats holding me back - heres the epiphany - The record label Frontiers has issued some pretty cool releases lately, but they are plagued by similar production and song style and thats what Im hearing here as well.  This is just ok for me, and I agree with RJ, great geetar work.

WARRANT ... 1.5 points
Sans Jani Lane who is in perpetual rehab it seems (Wish him well though). The song almost lost me and then the chorus played and I liked it, a lot!  The flashbacks in the video are cool.  1.5 points!!!  Anyone picking this up for an NMC showcase?

ANTHRAX ... 0 points
I dont know much about this band, and I dont know why.  Maybe this video will help me out...  Yup, it did...

MOTLEY CRUE ... 2 points
Ditto on RJ's comment. The Crue were never better than this.

Classic VOTW!!!  One for the Best Of...

Wow, 8.5/14 from Scott. That MUST be a record!!!!

I'm definetly not going to purchase the new Warrant. I might tease RJ a bit, and post Seether and Black Stone Cherry in my next NMC

I think it is a record.  I must be in a good mood today!

Stevie Nicks--2 points

I dunno, I was on the edge about buying this album, thought it was going to be really, really soft rock. You know, the stuff that Rjhog adores. Video is mystical (duh) song is really good. Can't wait to listen to the rest of the album!

Black Stone Cherry--2 points

The previous album was awesome (still can't get into their first one though). But I like this. A lot. If the rest of the album is this good, maybe album of the year? And Scott, check out who their parents are (well, at least one of 'em), that'll help you with the countryish vibe....

Interesting, The Kentucky Headhunters is one of the few (and I mean few) country bands that I liked in the 70 and 80's.  May give them another shot...

Who Cares--2 points

Shames it's only a few songs (for now) from this SUPERGROUP. For a benefit song, it's a bit dark, wouldn't you say? Really liked the song, the video was cool.

Doing really good so far Niels...too bad TNT will probably ruin it....and Warrant.

TNT--1 point

Geetar good. Singer, eh. I have one TNT album and have tried and tried to like but just can't. 1 point for the cause and the geetar. If either one of them wasn't there, it would be zero points.

Warrant--0 points

Sorry, song just sucks EXCEPT for the lyric "there's a mustard stain on your baby's d**k". Have no idea what that means (and really don't wanna know), but COULD be the greatest lyric of all time. And shouldn't the title be "Life Is A Song"? Just a stupid, stupid song all around (except for that one line, of course.)  Bad 80's hair metal flashback on this. And to think, I won their first album from a radio contest and still have it on cassette.

Anthrax--1 point

Not my favorite Anthrax song but it's ok. Video is funny, especially the guy dancing next to the drummer, he must have learned his steps from my 80's dance video that was a huge bestseller. 46th best? Don't think so.

Snotty Spew--2 points

Don't think it their best album, maybe the third best but this song brings back memories and some memories are good so two points for memories. And yes, the cowbell!

So not a really great list because of Warrant. You tried but maybe next time you'll do better Niels?

No, I won't.
