Classic Rock Bottom

......and VOTW is back again, this time video's by KISS, QUEEN, SAXON, SEBASTIAN BACH, TOBY HITCHCOCK, COLDPLAY and EDGUY.

TOBY HITCHCOCK - THIS IS THE MOMENT

Thanks to TageRyche, I'll post this video. I can't really say, I know much about this one. TageRyche?

SEBASTIAN BACH - KICKING AND SCREAMING

Of the new video and single, Bach commented, "I could not be happier with the video for 'Kicking & Screaming'. Director Devin DeHaven did a great job and this video has a lot of energy and power, just like the song. Plus, this video is FUN! Just what rock n' roll is about."

Bach will release Kicking & Screaming on September 23rd in Europe and on September 27th in North America via Frontiers Records.

SAXON - CALL TO ARMS

“Call To Arms”, the new video from British heavy metal legends SAXON, has been released. The song is the title track of the band’s new album, which will be released in North America on September 27 by UDR Music/EMI.

EDGUY - ROBIN HOOD

Edguy has posted a music video online for the song “Robin Hood,” which is taken from the band’s 2011 album “Age Of The Joker.”

COLDPLAY - EVERY TEARDROP IS A WATERFALL

From the coming Coldplay-album. I guess you'll all hate this one. I think it's okay, and will probably buy the album. Does anyone remember an italian "Pop-Disco-hit" from '90 called Ritmo Della Notre, or something like that? Coldplay stole the "Riff" from that song. When I heard it on the radio for the first time, I thought "Oh, it's Ritmo Della Notre". That's gotta be a lawsuit.

QUEEN - THE MIRACLE

The last really great song from Queen, and a great video as well. Did I ever mention, that I saw Queen on this tour? Guess I did. The kid that plays Freddie is outstanding.

KISS - A WORLD WITHOUT HEROES

Here we go, RJhog. I guess you've all seen this video a few times, as well as the Queen-video. I wonder why they didn't put this on Kissology II ? This is the only true The Elder-video imo. I like the song as well. Poor Gene.

The Toby Hitchcock video is the first single from his debut solo album Mercury Down (due out in the US on August 23rd). He hit the melodic rock scene with Pride of Lions originally. He and ex-Survivor keyboardist/vocalist Jim Peterik were the singers in the band. They did 3 studio albums and a live CD as well.

He has an amazing voice and while I think the video is kind of lame, I like the song. I look forward to buying the album in a couple of weeks.

Oops, a little mistake there. Of course, I didn't saw Queen on "The Miracle-tour", because they never did tour that album. It was their last tour with Freddie, the "Kind of Magic-tour" or whatever it was called, that I saw in Stockholm in '86.

Sebastian Bach - 0 points. Didn't like the vid and didn't like the song.

Edguy - 0 points. Idiotic.

Queen - 2 points. Awesome video, great song! And I agree the kid playing Freddie Mercury did an out of this world job.

Kiss - 1 point - Kiss trying to be not Kiss.

Toby Hitchcock--1.5 points

Much better than I thought it would be considering the whole band had short hair. Guy has a great voice. Video was ok, I did like the use of natural light. And a chick on horseback? More please! Does Toby have the whitest teeth you've ever seen???

Sebastian Bach--1 point

SAVAGE ANIMAL!!!!! Like the riff and Sebastian sounds good. Don't know if I'll buy this, but do like it. Docking 1 point because...well, just because.

Saxon--1.5 points

Really sad song. Video was pretty good, held my interest. I might pick up this album, liked the few tracks I've heard.

Edguy--1.5 points

This was incredibly goofy and funny. Edguy has always been amusing and it shows. The song is pretty good as well, another maybe possible buy.

Coldplay--1 point

I don't like Coldplay. But, I actually like this song. Reminds me of U2/Big Country/Tears For Fears. Video was quite catchy. Either my standards have dropped, or it's actually a good song?

Queen-2 points

Duh, no brainer with me. Here's a fun fact: the kid that played Freddie was engaged to Jennifer Love Hewitt back in the late 00's. For those that don't remember what JLH looks like:

Kiss--1 point

From Kiss' greatest album, period. But, a few questions: why is Paul doing the geetar solo? That ain't Peter on drums? Is that Ace doing the acoustic geetar thing? Not that I care who's doing what since it's Kiss, but it seems wrong. And what's with Paul's hairdo?

It wasn't the first time, Paul did a solo, while Ace was still in the band. Fx, they "split" the solo(s) in "I Want You". I'll bet RJhog can come up with a few more examples. At this point, Ace lived pretty much in a bottle and was very un-happy with The Elder (AND Unmasked). At the time, I actually though, that it was rather refreshing with the new Elder-look, even Paul's hairdo, and even though it failed, it was kind of cool with a Kiss -conceptalbum. When they did COTN, I kind of lost interest, because it was a step back, both musically and visually. They should probably have broken up at that time. I guess, you're the only one that agrees with me on this here at CRB, Jon?
I think they should have broken up after the first album.

JLH ...

Toby Hitchcock (8/10)

This is a very cool song.  And Jon is correct, the dude has a great voice.  I've heard of Pride Of Lions but never heard any of there stuff.  I would have given it a 9, but the song runs slightly long.  The video adds nothing at all, so it doesn't help or hurt the overall score.  The last time I saw an attractive girl riding in slow motion on horseback was in a movie from the 80's with Phoebe Cates and Matthew Modine, but I can't remember the name of the movie or of the chick on horseback, but it was an all-time favorite movie scene.

Sebastian Bach (8/10)

The song is okay, not great.  Looks like he's in pretty good shape, which is much more than I can say the last couple of times I've seen him.  Look, this guy has a great rock voice, no doubt about it.  But considering when he started, he should have a back catalog of at least 10 albums by now.  In my opinion, he needs to get in a "supergroup", which would probably help his songwriting.  I would have said 7, but the girl, who does her job of looking hot so well, made me bump it up a point.

Saxon (8/10)

The only Saxon that I've ever heard is what Niels has put up on CRB.  This song is not bad.  Dude's vocals are pretty good.  And I love me some black and white footage of WWI, so the video brings it up to 8.

Edguy (6/10)

Another band I've heard of but I'm not familiar with.  It's not the worst thing I've ever heard, but I can't say it's anything that would win me over.  Video is...okay.

Coldplay (8/10)

Not to bad.  I didn't realize they had a guitar player in the band.  I'm giving an extra point for the video.  Pretty creative.  Hey, weren't Coldplay involved in another song stealing lawsuit recently?

Queen (9/10)

I can't say it's one of my favorite Queen songs, but it's not bad.  I love the bass work.  Deacon was a beast on that instrument.   I'm bumping it up 2 points for the video.  Outstanding clone work.  Reminds me of VH's Hot For Teacher with the mini-me's.  Oh yeah, I definitely remember who Jennifer Love Hewitt is!

Kiss (10/10)

'Cause Kiss can do no wrong.  Seriously, this album is totally underated, even by the Kiss fan base.  Paul did play lead on this song.  Great job too.  Very soulful solo.  His first lead on a Kiss album was the third album, Dressed To Kill, which is 2 albums more that Jon thinks they should have made.  It was on C'mon And Love Me.  He shared lead duties with Ace on Detroit Rock City, I Want You and I Stole Your Love.  He also played lead by himself on the incredible cover of Then She Kissed Me and on Any Way You Want It.  Did you notice the tear streaming down Gene's face at the end.  That, my friends, is a sign of a great actor.

The Phoebe Cates/Matthew Modine movie you are thinking of is called Private School.
That's it.  I saw part of it about 3 or 4 months ago on HBO, but couldn't think of the title.
Bad movie. Really, really bad. And I like that sort of stuff, but that movie? BAD.
