Classic Rock Bottom

I've been walking through the heavier side of my collection this week and I am noticing a big deficiency.  One of the coolest things about doing this list each week is that I am learning more about my musical tastes than I thought I would.  At my age I should be well established in what I like, and I am for the most part.  It is clear that I have a very melodic driven taste.  But something has awakened my heavier side.  e.g.  For the first time this week Megadeth has really caught my ear and I've been driving through a lot of their material, not surprisingly its the more melodic releases that I'm really digging, albums like, Cryptic Warnings and Risk are the ones that I'm really liking, but the new Endgames release is pretty intriguing too.  Hmmm... Is it possible to go outside the musical comfort zone at age 45?

I'll answer my own question...  I've already begun that new journey, it will be interesting to see if it influences this list at some point.

Away we go...

TITLE: The Prisoner
ALBUM: The Number of the Beast
BAND: Iron Maiden
YEAR: 1982

I am number 2!  hahahaha...  One of my favorites off an album full of favorites!

TITLE: I'll Give You That
ALBUM: Back to the Mansion
BAND: April Wine
YEAR: 2001

For April Wine fans, a true hidden treasure, this is from a real fine studio album put out in 2001.  Its a great set from a great Canadian band.

TITLE: Wishing Well
ALBUM: Heaven and Hell
BAND: Black Sabbath
YEAR: 1980

My favorite version of Sabbath, and my favorite track!

TITLE: Playing With Girls
ALBUM: Fly On The Wall
BAND: AC/DC
YEAR: 1985

Fly is a great release and this a real hard driving straight ahead rocker.  As usual, great riffs galore!

TITLE: Burnin' Up
ALBUM: Hell Bent for Leather
BAND: Judas Priest
YEAR: 1979

I like to think of tracks like this as Side 2 Track 1.  hahaha.  Hell Bent for Leather was a great sign of the bands new direction (not as dark as prior releases), and is still one of their best releases top to bottom.

TITLE: 321
ALBUM: Humanity Hour 1
BAND: Scorpions
YEAR: 2007

I think all of us were hoping that Sting In the Tail would be Humanity Hour 2, but alas.. This is a great disc, and this a killer melodic track, at least one of my favorites.

TITLE: The Mirror
ALBUM: Awake
BAND: Dream Theater
YEAR: 1994

Awake is a very cool album, it's the album where the Dream Theater sound made a transition from melodic progressive to more dark and heavy progressive, as such this is a very cool hybrid of the two styles.

TITLE: Sweet Release
ALBUM: Birds of Prey
BAND: Live
YEAR: 2003

Wanted to contrast a track I listed last week with a more current track from this band.  I love Birds of Prey, and Sweet Release is a perfect example of why.

TITLE: I Walk Alone
ALBUM: Carnival of Souls - The Final Sessions
BAND: KISS
YEAR: 1997

Cool track with Bruce Kulick on vocals, even contains a backward solo...

TITLE: Black Blade
ALBUM: Cultosaurus Erectus
BAND: Blue Oyster Cult
YEAR: 1980

One of my favorite album covers of all time.  Black Blade has a cool vibe and cool timing changes.

It appears as though File Factory's music player doesn't seem to be working, in fact its no longer an option on their site. I found a real nice alternative for now, however, the embed code requires a membership, otherwise it will only play 1:30 seconds of each track. So to play this list please use the link at the bottom of the post. The link should open in a new tab and will play the full track for each song...

Please let me know if this is ok, in the meantime I will continue to browse for a player that we can embed. The playlist is of high quality its just not embedded.
Well...that kind of sucks.
Some really good stuff here this time around!
Scott, this was a much needed playlist for me. The only thing that could have possibly been better is if it were based soley on songs about being angry with folks. Needless to say, I've about had it with some of these folks I work with. Anyway, I enjoyed the heavy stuff.

Best new song to me was I'll Give You That by April Wine. I've only heard a couple of their songs on the radio, and they are pretty good, but I think this one is better. It's a fantastic song, so thanks for introducing me to it.

I think you and I are on the exact same page on that Scorpions album. Humanity is soooooo much better that Sting In The Tail, and 321 is a very cool, pretty heavy song.

And then there is Kiss. I love listening to somebody else's playlist when they include Kiss. At least I know I didn't choose to put it there, someone else did. And you picked a great song from a totally underrated album. The backing vocals at the end (Gene and Paul) just blow me away on this song. I don't think Bruce has the greatest lead vocal voice, that's for sure, but it's good on this song. I think Gene and Paul really made a mistake by breaking up this lineup for the reunion. Don't get me wrong, the reunion was cool, but it should have been 1 tour and back to this lineup. Creatively, for the sake of money, they screwed up big time. But that's just my opinion.

Enough about that, great playlist Scott.
It looks GREAT with the album "popping" forward with each new song. Is that how the player will be from now on?

Nice with some HEAVY rock in my ears here at work.

How come, that the Dream Theater-track ends so suddently? I like the LIVE-number. I had never heard it before.
I can use different templates, Im having issues getting the embedded stuff to run on my FireFox installation, but have no issues on IE. I think its just me though, so it should be good going forward.

I paid the fee to get the embed code, but if the external link works just as well, I wouldnt mind not paying that again :-) But I also like the emebedded versions. I want to be consistent with what everyone else does and if they are not wanting to pay the embed code fee (or VIP montly fee) then my posts will switch back to the external link after October. All that said... I guess its wait and see...

The Dream Theater tracks cuts off funny because on the album it runs into the next track seemlessly.
