Classic Rock Bottom

Is it just me, or do you sometimes totally get into a band (or even a genre for that matter) that you have never really been all that into before?  If so, please share it with us in this thread.  Heck, I'll even start the ball rolling.

Right now, I'm really into Dream Theater.  As a matter of fact, I'm listening to their most recent offering as I type this.  I currently own three DT albums, but I have purchased three others and those are in transit to my earthly mailbox.  I can't wait to get 'em.  This band is terrific.  Musically, all members are extremely proficient at their instruments.  But I think I've been even more drawn to the vocalist (James Labrie).  It's wonderful stuff.  And on top of that, it's prog, which also seems to be on my mind a lot lately.

So what about you?

Warning: Don't overload yourself on Dream Theater. Take it in small doses.

It shouldn't be much of a surprise, that right now, I'm very much into Steve Hackett/Genesis. I can't understand, even if you know or don't know the 70's Genesis, if you don't take a listen to "Genesis Revisited II"? There is so much to like about this album: Great songs, great guitar, great synthesizers, great production and some great singers. I've tried some times to get into 70's Genesis, but I never really got into it, I don't know why? Peter Gabriel is great, but can be annoying. The production on the old albums wasn't good. All thise things have been corrected now. I'm waiting for "Genesis Revisited I" but somehow, I don't think it will live up to "II", because it's damn near perfect. I listen a lot to the old Genesis- albums as well, and they do Sound great now, when I really know some of the tracks. I have owned "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" for a few years now, but even so, I prefer the versions of the songs on "..Revisited II"

My opinion on Dream Theater is, that the best thing about that band is/was Mike Portnoy. If they had a different singer, it would had been a better band.

Why is II out now, but not I?

Oh, "I" was released in 1996, but is re-released on thursday. I've ordered the "new" version (remastered?) of the album.

Oh, I see.  Thanks for the info.

I have really gotten into Nightwish as of late.

I honestly can't think of anything right now, in terms of listening to CD's. But I can say this...I've never been into Springstein, but lately, I've seen a live in concert special on VH1 Classic, where the boss has plenty of stars join him on stage. And I must say I've been impressed with his focus, his energy, and yes, even his vocal work is pretty strong on this concert special. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

I don't have any NEW band that I'm into recently. But this past week or so I've been giving all my Iron Maiden and Bruce Dickinson albums a new round of listening to.

Man, every time I listen to "Chemical Wedding", or "Accident Of Birth", I think how it's so good, that its better than anything Iron Maiden ever did. And I think that's saying a lot! Just recently picked up "Balls To Picasso", and after two spins, think it's a very good record also.

I don't know that I'd go as far as saying the albums were better than anything Maiden ever did, but I do know Accident of Birth was better than the two Blaze Bayley albums.

So I took a chance on some Pre-"Slide It In" Whitesnake and picked up Saints and Inners and Come and Get It. Freakin awesome! So good I ordere Trouble and Ready an Willing. I couldn't be happier with these albums.

Yep, those are some really good Whitesnake albums.
