Let's talk about Peter Frampton this week. Specifically, his 1972 solo debut Wind Of Change. First:
Although it plods along at a lumbering pace, it's a very cool album. There's really not a bad song here. The album is bathed in terrific acoustic work as well as Frampton's typical electric guitar work. The cover of Jumpin' Jack Flash is cool. It's totally different from the original, but the guitar work on it really makes the tune burn for me. The guitar solo on The Lodger is wicked.
If you haven't heard this album, here is your chance. I do recommend it, especially if you like Frampton's popular stuff. It is available (remastered according to Amazon) in a 2 disc set along with Frampton's Camel for around 16 bucks.

Really good album. Only problem is, I don't have it. It has to do with the dove on the cover. I refuse to buy albums with birds on the cover. Birds are evil. They group together in the backyard and stare at me. They're planning something, I just know it.
What is a "wind of change"? Just one wind? I'm a bit confused.
Other than those minor issues, this is a really good album. Of course the nice geetaring is expected. I actually have most of these songs on different comps, but if I can find a copy without the bird on the cover, I'll pick it up.
I've got your bird.
what the heck is that magazine on the wall next to him? uh.... this seems shady...
Frampton's pre "Comes Alive" albums are an acquired taste. They are all at once, mellow, melodic, and rocking. His guitar work is technically some of the best on the biz and he should be held up with the best. Seem him live a few times and its impressive... But back to this album, luckily I had an older brother who introduced me to some of this and so my acquired taste seems to have always been true...
Ive notice this and Framptons Camel are available as duo remasters, Im going to read up on their quality, and because the price is right, if they review as good, their mine!
Nice nice post! This is right up my alley!
