Classic Rock Bottom

Well, that's the best title I could think of.  I haven't posted anything here in a while so I thought I'd share some songs that received major spin time with me at some point in my life.  I think they are pretty much all from the 2000's.  They really don't have anything in common other than the statement above.  I guess this would be a version of JHT, ripping off SHT of course.  Here goes:

1. Away From Me (Puddle Of Mudd) - This one comes off of their second album, which I don't think is as good as their first, but I do like this song.  No major reason for it being here other than that.

2. The Game (Disturbed) -  From their debut, this song found it's way into my heart when I was in a major pissed off phase of life, pretty much because of divorce.  I think I liked anything that lyrically discussed being pissed, so this was perfect.  By the way, I'm over all that crap now, I think.

3. One Day Remains (Alter Bridge) - Again off of their debut, this song totally smokes.  You get a guitar virtuoso performance from Mark Tremonti, and I'm not even talking about a solo.  Just listen.

4. Figured You Out (Nickelback) - Okay, I just blasted this band the other day in a post by Scott.  And I really meant it.  But this is before they commenced sucking.  This song is about sex.  It hit my radar during the time I was dating, after my divorce.

5. If You Could Only See (Tonic) - I heard this on the radio one day and thought it was an awesome song.  I still do.  I went out and bought the album, which I've never listened to in it's entirety.  But this song was very common when I used to make mix CD's.   Yes, I did make mix CD's.

6. Resolve (Foo Fighters) - This is a real gem from Foo Fighters, and it's completely underrated.  Although I've always liked it, I really just started loving it. The guitar is just wonderful.

7. Pushing Me Away (Linkin Park) - I'm sure this one will turn some heads.  Yes, I do like some of Linkin Park's stuff.  Really just the first CD though.  This song closes that CD out, and it's structure is that of the soft sound, followed by a more aggressive, harder sound.  And this is about as much rap as I can take.

8. Greed (Godsmack) - Another aggressive, heavy song.  I can't tell you how many nights I sat with the lights off, a beer in hand, just listening to the CD this came off of.  Again, during the divorce period of my life, with plenty of anger floating around.

9. Mourning (Tantric) - What a great CD this comes from.  It's their debut, which is far better than anything else they've done.  Tantric is an acoustically driven band, and this song is no different.  This is more about the aftermath of divorce for me, or really any relationship gone bad.

10. Running Through The Fields (For Jeffrey) (Sister Hazel) - Quite simply, this is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.  The message I get from the lyrics is of the loss of a young brother, I imagine from disease.  The guitar is simple, the vocals amazing.  My wife introduced me to this band and this song.

So Nickelback only suck if I post it?  hmmm     I kid....  hahahahaha

Finally another HT list!  I was posting mine at the same time, but I'm gonna listen to yours and report back, but before I do...  You should really listen to the whole Tonic CD, its fantastic!  I posted the same Tonic track in one of my early early lists.

Dang it!  I totally forgot about that, or I wouldn't have posted it here.

Nice list!  I have Puddle of Mudds first one, its collecting dust as I think it sounds dated, the track you posted is ok though not a lot different than Puddle of Mudd 1.0.  I liked the Nickelback tune when it first came out and it still sounds good, though I can see how people are getting tired of hearing them as they do start to sound the same.  I love the Mutt Lange produced Dark Horse album though, its the only one I own. And I have the Foo Fighter tune, nice track, but they are a great band! Heavy list!  Loved that last track, took the edge off the first 9!

Great playlist, RJhog!!

A few of my thoughts:

"Away from me" sounded a bit like Nirvana, I think, but it was a good number.

I like the (kind of) "industrial sound" the Disturbed-track has.

"I like the pants around your feets" (great lyrics from Nickelback, a band that I usually don't really like)

Long time since I heard the Foo Fighters-track. I REALLY hope, that their coming album will be great. IMHO, the first two releases they made, are by FAR, their best. Since then, there has been to much "teenage-appeal" or whatever. Dave Grohl and the band should grow up now!!!!

Sorry, but I won't waste my time on Linkin Park, so I skippede that one!!
