Let's Talk Some NFL and College Football-Great Last Few Weeks

I know we mostly talk music on here, but let's talk football (and other sports if you like) for a few minutes. I am not a huge college football fan but the last few weeks have been exciting. I know next season they are starting a four team playoff, but strangely enough the BCS has made for some legitimate excitement this year.

The NFL yesterday was one of the most fun days I can remember in a long time. There were a lot of snow games (I loathe dome and retractable roof stadiums for football) that made for a lot of fun and some wild, and crazy finishes. I am still not sure who the two best teams are, Denver's defense concerns me and on the NFC side the Saints are a different team outside of their sissy dome, lol. Seattle is tough at home but I wonder if they can win in a shootout against anyone.

Loved the play with Calvin Johnson where he came up with his facemask full of snow and nothing but his nose showing.  That was too cool.

Auburn, although they dominated UGA for the first 3 quarters, got lucky to win that game.  It was pure luck at the end.  They out-executed Alabama at the end of the game, so I don't consider that luck.  But they should be 11-2 and Michigan St. or Baylor should be playing FSU for the NC.  FSU has looked invincible all year.  That being said, don't be surprised if Auburn wins that game and closes out the BCS era with an 8th straight title for the SEC and either 5th or 6th straight from the SEC West.

Was definitely a great weekend of football! And I agree 100 percent with Scandal....football was meant to be played outdoors, period!

The NFL has now become a league where teams can truly "turn it around" from one season to the next...in both ways!! Bad teams can become good quickly....and good teams can have bad seasons, shortly after a nice run of winning. Just ask the Falcons, the Steelers, and the Giants!

But College football is still my number one sport. The bowl season should be a lot of fun, although I'm not too crazy about a few of the matchups. I think Arizona State, despite their bad loss to Stanford in their conference championship game, deserves a stronger team to play over a Texas Tech team that fell apart in the second half. And Notre Dame should be playing a stronger team than Rutgers.

Also, I would have loved to see Baylor take on Alabama, instead of Oklahoma. Baylor had the better season. Baylor's offense against 'Bama's defense would be fun to watch. Missouri against Oklahoma State, Stanford against Michigan State, and Ohio State against Clemson should be good games.

The National Championship game should be a good one, as long as Auburn's offense can score on the FSU defense. FSU, though, has not really been challenged all season. Neither Clemson nor Florida put any real pressure on FSU. So, it will be interesting to see if Auburn can stay close, or even have a lead, early in the game. That would be the first real pressure FSU has basically faced all season.

Florida is terrible.  They couldn't put pressure on a paper cut.

But they were n't "supposed to be" terrible!

My college team is the epitome of mediocre...Georgia Tech!! Can't even beat the Dawgs when Murray was out, and we had a nice lead. But I wont switch sides!!!

As a Carolina fan, I need another day or two to reply to this thread... Kidding. Wasn't thinking the panthers would take the saints at home, but thought they would play better. I think we split with them and beat them here in Charlotte in two weeks.

Denver sucks, I can never ever like them, so I hope they lose their first playoff game ... As usual.

On the college side... Was walking around Charlotte uptown on Saturday, major discrepancy in FSU versus Duke fans, pretty much an FSU home game... I guess I shouldn't be surprised, anyone know a Duke football fan? But they are from close by so I thought they would get a little love, but nope!

I really thought Clemson would hang better with FSU.  Not so.

They are always the pre-season favorites....  I wasn't convinced that Taj Boyd was "as advertised", though he will still draft high - he is still a wait and see project for me

I felt the same way, but he impressed me with his performance against UGA in the season opener.

Gotta give a shout to my Carolina Panthers who secured a playoff spot today against the still bounty hunting Aints. #KeepPounding

Damn, they won?  That's cool, I don't like the Saints.  But Newton couldn't hit the broad side of a barn while I was watching.

He was playing on a bad leg...
