Classic Rock Bottom

New Music Corner #15 (Jimmy Eat World, Monty Are I, Megadeth)

New Music Corner #15 - By your newly improved, kinder than ever, and gentler pal Scott!
10.15.2010

So I have a confession.  2010 releases from classic artists seems to be slowing down compared to years past?  Age maybe?  Or my tastes are changing and I'm not liking what I'm hearing (e.g. Heart).  Probably both...  Here are two newer bands that I'm really getting into and one classic artist that I'm just starting to really appreciate...

Note:  I mixed up the order of the tracks to throw Jon off...

Enjoy...

Jimmy Eat World - Invented

Monty Are I - Break Through The Silence
September 2009

6. Break Through The Silence
7. The Stand
8. Making Sounds
9. Sand Riders Doomsday
10. Desert

Megadeth - Endgame
September 2009

11. 44 Minutes
12. Bodies
13. Endgame
14. The Hardest Part of Letting Go...  Sealed With A Kiss

Cover Art: C, Could have been a B if it was any other band, but Megadeth traditionally has cool album covers and this one isn't one of them.  Good thing the music is awesome!

Here is how I rank these 3:

1. Jimmy Eat World
2. Megadeth
3. Monty Are I

Scott, I see your in an alternative rock mood.

Jimmy Eat World (Thumbs up)

I like this. I have a previous Jimmy Eat World album (Futures) and it's fair, nothing earth-shattering. That album is more electrically driven and this one sounds more acoustically driven. I really, really like "My Best Theory", but all of it (except track 3) is pretty good.

Monty Are I (Thumbs down)

Same genre, opposite result. That's a little harsh, it's not terrible, it just doesn't move me. I do agree on your assesment of the artwork.

Megadeth (Thumbs even)

Musically I like it. Vocally, I'm not so sure. He has a peculiar voice, but compared to the one Megadeth album that I own and really dig, there is something slightly different. Maybe he's singing slightly lower. I know that was almost 20 years ago, but it bugs me. I like the subject of the first song a lot, but I think the song could have been better vocally.

Nice post Scott.
Hey, that's kinda mean? I'll figure it out though, just you wait and see.
Jimmy Eat World (Thumbs up)

Never heard of this band, but I like what I'm hearing.

Monty Are I (Thumbs up)

Never heard of this band either, but again, I like it, in fact more than I like Jimmy Eat World!! It's very well produced. Good speed on the songs. I'm thinking of buying this one.

Megadeth (Thumbs down)

Dave Mustaine can't sing anymore, if he ever could. This album does nothing for me.

Very good post, Scott.
I forced myself to finally listen to this, even tough it's from (the kinder) Scott

Jimmy Eat World: I REALLY like this for some reason. Sounds like it would have fit in during he 80's. "My Best Theory" reminds of Roxette for some reason.

Monty Are I: Yeah. No thanks. Sounds like a lot of other bands out there.

Megadeth: On par with the previous "United Abominations" album which was a small step back from the awesome "The System Has Failed". Dave has really never had a great voice, but it works for what he's doing. Besides, he ordered Lori Davis hair care products from me years ago, so I have a special place in my heart for the lug.
