I've got a couple of AOR releases and a brand-spankin-new release. I'm gonna pull reviews and comments of what others are saying about these releases and use that as my descriptions for each CD. I am doing this because I want to follow Niels' lead and comment later myself...
1- Show Me The Money 2- When We Were Young 3- When Worlds Collide 4- Read My Mind 5- Neverland
[Pulled from MelodicRock.com] This is a very intelligent melodic rock record with layers and layers of hooks, melodies and instrumentation and no one could figure this record out without a dozen listens. There is something new to hear constantly. The mix for example is amazing…so crystal clear with so many layers to make room for. This simply is a sensational record. Every song is a winner, but not every song has as much impact as others. This album has peaks and valleys. The valleys are the moodier, more modern moments that offer the listener something new to absorb and appreciate.
6- Sinner Sinner 7- Moonster Booster 8- From Another Time 9- Hey Mama 10- Shooting Star
[Pulled from MelodicRock.com] Classic rock is on the rise & Italy's Moonstone Project is leading the resurgence! This isn't the same tired play list you've heard on AOR radio every day for the past 30 years, but a new breed of music that eschews the trappings of cold modern production in favor of the groovy retro vibes of arena rock's glory days. No one recaptures this throwback sentiment with more aplomb than Moonstone Project; not surprising considering the cast of characters maestro Matt Filippini has summoned to his circle.
A widely respected touring & studio guitarist of the highest order, Matt has provided his exciting six string work for legends like Blue Oyster Cult, Glenn Hughes and Ian Paice amongst many others. Moonstone Project, however, is his master creation. More than simply a nostalgia act, this collective has created fiery original songs for the next generation, steeped authentically in the fine tradition of bluesy British 70s rock ala Deep Purple, Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Zeppelin & Bad Company. What sets Filippini's group apart from the hordes of shaggy, bell-bottomed trendies coming to the surface in recent times is the players he employs are the very same legends who created the scene in the first place!
11- Slip Into The Void 12- Isolation 13- Ghosts of Days Gone By 14- Still Remains 15- Coeur D'alene 16- Life Must Go On
[Pulled from UltimateGuitar.com] If you dig deep topics that cause you to question life (and death) as we know it, then you would have fit right in at any of Alter Bridge’s latest recording sessions. The general mood for the rock quartet was a bit more intense thanks to vocalist Myles Kennedy’s visit to the spiritual crossroads, a theme that in many ways has created a “loose” concept album.
[Pulled from MusicRadar.com] Make no mistake, Alter Bridge's third album AB III is one of the guitar albums of the year. Doubted they'd be able to top 2007's Blackbird? They have...
This is okay. I really liked track number 3, When Worlds Collide. I could easily listen to it, though I probably wouldn't buy it.
Moonstone Project (Thumbs Sideways)
Sort of the same as Unruly Child for me. Now, they don't sound like UC, I just mean I'd have no problem listening to it. I think Jon's right on the money with his "funky" description. In some parts it reminds me of Mother's Finest.
Alter Bridge (Thumbs Up)
I really dig Alter Bridge. I've been waiting patiently on this to arrive. And Scott got it out on NMC before I did. But that's okay, I got plenty of stuff. Back to Alter Bridge. What a fantastic guitar player (Tremonti) and vocalist (Kennedy). As a matter of fact, I think Kennedy is the second best vocalist currently making music (Brent Smith from Shinedown is number one in my book). They are capable songwriters and the drummer is quite good as well.
I'm going to hear this later this weekend, but I must say: I'm VERY disapointed, Scott!!! I was going to use the Alter Bridge-album in NMC next week!!! Oh well, I got another idea, but now, I have to get out and buy that "idea".
I WAS going to give this, Thumbs down, but the last song "Shooting Star" is rather good!
Alter Bridge (Thumbs way up)
This is a great album, and that surprised me, because I don't like Creed either! But I'm listening to it all the time. Myles Kennedy is a great vocalist.
Unruly Child (Thumbs 45 degrees up)
I actually did not like this one when I first heard it, but the original reviewer was right on a couple of points, the more you listen the better this gets. But it also has some tracks that didn't, not many just a couple.
Moonstone Project (Thumbs up)
I liked this the first time I heard it, and it was Shooting Star that that I heard first.
Alter Bridge (Thumbs way way up)
This is what Mad TV use to call "the HNL", a "hole nutha level". I haven't stopped playing this yet
Scott and Niels, Both of you seem to really like the Alter Bridge CD. Do either of you have either of their previous efforts or is this your first taste? I'm wondering 'cause I've mentioned them before (here and back on Classic Rock Revisited) and didn't get much response (that I can remember). I'm just curious. I thought their previous album was pretty good too.
I have their first one which I like pretty well, but it hasn't gotten much play ;ate;y, this ABIII is whole new ball game though. I do not have their second effort...
