"SCOTTS" HIDDEN TREASURE #63 - Living in a Box (Guest-host: Niels)

Sorry, but there won't be any banner with naked girls this time, because I don't really know, how to make such a banner! But what about a picture:

I've had this idea for a while, but since it's not my "show", I had to wait until an opportunity like this. If I think of REALLY hidden "treasures", I'm thinking unreleased tracks, that only appear on Box-sets. Maybe it's not some of the best tracks from these bands, but they are okay, imo anyway. I think that the Neil Young-track is well-known, but I really like that song. Okay, on with the list...

TITLE: You're So Rude
BAND: Faces
BOX-SET: Five Guys Walk Into A Bar...
YEAR: 1972
LENGTH: 3:44
DID YOU KNOW: This was the B-side to the single "Stay With Me".

Five Guys Walk into a Bar... is a four-disc retrospective of the British rock group Faces released in 2004, collecting sixty-seven tracks from among the group's four studio albums, assorted single A- and B-sides, BBC sessions, rehearsal tapes and one track from a promotional flexi-disc, "Dishevelment Blues," which was never actually intended for release.

TITLE: Who Scared You
BAND: The Doors
BOX-SET: The Doors Box-Set
YEAR: 1969
LENGTH: 3:19
DID YOU KNOW: This was the B-side to the single "Wishful Sinful".

This was the first box set by the band The Doors released on October 28, 1997. The set includes previously rare and unreleased demo recordings.

TITLE: Big Sky
BAND: The Kinks
BOX-SET: Picture Book
YEAR: 1968
LENGTH: 2:51
DID YOU KNOW: This is actually not really a "rare" track. It's from the album "The Village Green Preservation Society", but the track from the box-set is 3 seconds(!) longer than the original track!!

This box set, that was released in dec. 2008, is not at all full of rare tracks, but a compilation (best of) set, containing 6 cd's.

TITLE: Happy The Man
BAND: Genesis
BOX-SET: Genesis Archive 1967-1975
YEAR: 1972
LENGTH: 2:54
DID YOU KNOW: This is a non-lp A-side single release.

This set features live recordings and rarities from the band's classic years when Peter Gabriel was lead singer. The first two of the four discs consist of a previously unreleased live recording of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway from 1975. Some of Peter Gabriel's vocals on the live recordings of this box set were re-recorded by the singer in 1998 due to technical problems with the recording as well as elaborate costumes that often muffled his voice. Guitarist Steve Hackett re-recorded some guitar parts as well.

TITLE: Sugar Mountain
"BAND": Neil Young
BOX-SET: Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972
YEAR:1968
LENGTH: 5:47
DID YOU KNOW: This version is from "Live At Canterbury House 1968", my favorite version of the song.

The Archives Vol. 1 1963–1972 is a box set by Neil Young, released on June 2, 2009 and designed by Gary Burden. It is the first of several in the Neil Young Archives series, which will eventually chronicle the artist's entire career. The box, which won a Grammy Award for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, features previously released as well as rare and unreleased material from the first decade of Young's career, spanning his Winnipeg years with The Squires, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and his first several solo albums. The release is set to be followed by other box sets covering other stages of his career.

Nice idea Niels.  The only thing you are missing is a track from Kiss' box set.

That first track really, really sounds like the Rolling Stones musically, though not vocally.  I thought the Doors track was cool, but my favorite would be the Neil Young track.

Good job.

I WAS gonna use a track from the KISS-Box set, but ended up with the Genesis-track instead.
No Kiss?? Wow, this might be the bestest SHT list EVER!
I love her!!!

Yes, me too!

I got a problem right off the bat!  Guest Hosts are not be better than the original!    Im counting on RJ to bring the quality of this forum down a few notches next week!

I really liked that Faces track!  Who was that singing?  Anyone know if there is truth to the rumor that they are working on new material?

Im not much of Doors fan and that probably puts me in the minority of classic rock fans, but oh well, they dont work for me.  And to Mike Pells dissapointment, the Kinks are in the same boat for me.

The Genesis track is interesting.  Happy The Man.  Kinda sounds like Yoda inspired the title...  Digress, I do!

Sugar Mountain is killer!  Love that one, so its easily my favorite.  And just where is Sugar Mountain you ask?  In North Carolina!!!  OK, maybe theres more than one and I dont know to which he is referring but we do have one in the big NC!  My boys ski on it every year.

Thanks for filling in!

I'm sure you'll be quite pleased with how crappy it is next week.

I thought they (The Faces) were doing some touring with the guy from UB40 or Simple Minds or something like that filling in on vocals...haven't heard of any possible new material.  But on that note, I have heard Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck are working on new material.  I'd really like to hear some new "ROCK" music from Stewart.

ah ..  maybe thats the rumor I was hearing.  I woudl love some rock and roll from him too.  I hope he is still capable.

I'd be willing to bet he sounds great.  He's been doing all of these standards that, while challenging in their own right, don't require him to do any kind of screaming.

You're welcome. I already got another idea, but it WAS tougher than doing NMC, so maybe next time, you'll need a break?

It's Mick Hucknall or what his name, from Simply Red, who has "replaced" Stewart in Faces, but he said, he would "step down" anytime for Stewart.

I've heard, that Robert Plant and Jeff Beck might work together.

Oh, and by the way: I think it's Ronnie Lane on vocals on the Faces-track.

This was good, probably the best EVER.

Except for the Genesis song. Don't know, have never really got into old Genesis, for some reason I keep hearing that "Lamb..." song everyday it seems like and I'm sick of it. So sick of early Genesis too.....

Other than that, I enjoyed. I like this guest thing, hopefully then "original" person doesn't come back?

But then again, Rjhog will absolutely ruin it next week so can't wait for you to come back Scott!!!

I can only hope to duplicate Niels success in presenting the quite attractive young lady...and dang it, where are those rode bumps.
