Classic Rock Bottom

This has been a very emotional week for my household.  Our 16 year old nephew, Tyler S, was in an ATV accident last Sunday and is currently paralyzed from the chest down.  Just an awful tragedy and quite inspirational at the same time.  You see, he is the star QB for his High School, and as it so happens this accident occured at Pismo Beach in California.  The Stanford football team and coach visited him before their game this past Saturday (9/11/10).  The Stanford QB and some other players wore a #8 sticker on their helmets as a tribute.  Stanford then went about clobbering UCLA.  The prayer outreaches, and words of encouragment have been nothing short of awesome and inspiring.

He will walk again is our prayer...

So what does that have to do with this weeks list?  I wanted to try and find those hidden gems that are inspiring, not just lyrically but also musically.  At least for me they are...

Lets try this, and see how pumped up we get...

Title: See The Light
Artist: Aldo Nova
Album: Aldo Nova
Year: 1982

In the list of great debut albums, I think this one belongs in the discussion.  The album closes with this track which has great lyrics, and a very cool bass line.

Title: Hold On
Artist: Triumph
Album: Just A Game
Year: 1979

Music Holds the Secret, To know it can make you whole, It's not just a game of notes, It's the sounds inside your soul, The magic of the melody runs through you like a stream.  Lyrically perfect and musically inspriing.  Real nice track from one of Canada's greatest trios. Ive used this band two weeks in a row now.  What a great catalog they have!

Title: Stand Up
Artist: Santana
Album: Marathon
Year: 1979

Marathon is one of Santanas biggest hidden gems, what a great melodic album with some great guitar tracks, of which this is perfect track describing both. Im hoping for remasters of this era, but I dont think we'll see them anytime soon.

Title: Flying In A Blue Dream
Artist: Joe Satriani
Album: Flying In A Blue Dream
Year: 1989

Instrumentals speak volumes sometimes.  This one is one of them.

Title: Big Picture
Artist: Loverboy
Album: VI
Year: 1997

I think this song came up once on that other site. Ive always found this style of tune with the  thumping bass line and the timing of the song to be a great combination.  If this was on one of their first 3-4 albums it woudlve hit the charts big.

Title: Given To Fly
Artist: Pearl Jam
Album: Yield
Year: 1998

Cool song, plain and simple.  Pearl Jam has always been a heavy laden band with thick textures and lyrics that always have something to say.  At least when you can understand them.

Title: Everlong
Artist: Foo Fighters
Album: The Colour and the Shape
Year: 1997

Staying in the same genre for another tune.  Strong Strong track!  And one of David Lettermans all time favorite.

Title: Get Up And Enjoy Yourself
Artist: Head East
Album: Head East
Year: 1978

(Taken from the dual album title Gettin' Lucky/Head East)
Great bass line and in the true Head East style, nice production on the drum tracks.  Oh yeah, and the lyrics provide sound advice.

Title: Comin Home
Artist: Prism
Album: Armageddon
Year: 1979

Another melodic tune with the thumping bass line and timing.  Nice slide solo in the middle, one of those simple but effective ones.  Also a catchy chorus.  Love this band!  R.I.P. Ron Taybak.

Title: Dont Give Up
Artist: New Radicals
Album: Maybe Youve Been Brainwashed Too
Year: 1998

Guilty Pleasure?  Yup!  I have to say that I have always loved this track and it always makes me smile.  Now could'nt we all use a little more of that?

I made it through this list and totally stayed away from Eye of the Tiger.  Was wondering if I was gonna make it there for a minute.  But I think this is a list thats all over the musical spectrum, which is kinda cool, and reflective of the emotions in my household this week.

I hope this list find you and yours all well, and that something on here gives you a smile.

Evil Scott?  I think not....

Scott, I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew. My family will pray for him and your family. Hopefully he can keep a positive outlook and pull through this and make a full recovery. That's really cool what Stanford did for him. Please keep us informed on any progress he makes.

As far as the playlist, it looks really good. There's probably only two tracks there that I'm familiar with, so I'm looking forward to hearing it. I'll listen probably tonight while feeding my boy.
Thanks RJ, appreciate all the help we can get.

This playlist is more in the middle of the road pop/rock than it is hard rock, so maybe a light listen. But I cant control where the list takes me week after week. The music has to do the talking...
I hope everything works out fine for your nephew, Scott.

As far, as I can see, it's another great playlist, and I'm looking forward to listen to it, later this week.
Sorry about your nephew Scott, will have him in our prayers here.

Will scope this out this Friday and maybe, just maybe, make some random comments.
Good playlist Scott. It's very easy listening and it's perfect to listen to at 1:30am (yeah, I know, you guys are getting tired of hearing that my listening time is in the wee hours of the morning while feeding my son, but it's a great time to check out some music, and I think he likes it as well).
Nice playlist , even kinda liked Pearl Jam.
