Classic Rock Bottom

What comes to mind when you think of a typical New Years eve party's music?  Donna Summers Last Dance?  Chic's Good Times?  The Trammps Disco Inferno?  Dan Fogelburg's Same old Lang Syne?  Kool and the Gangs Cherish? J. Geils Love Stinks?  hehehe...

If you could influence the playlist by mixing in 10 classic rock tunes, what would they be?  This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, you see this is SHT #26 and I have already posted 250 songs in the previous 25 lists, many of which I would have place in this list, but the fun of digging deep into the catalog never gets old...

Away we go...

TITLE: Champagne Jam
BAND: Atlanta Rhythm Section
ALBUM: Champagne Jam
YEAR: 1978
Raise your glass ladies and gentlemen!  Happy New Year, were gonna have us a Champagne Jam!

TITLE: Rockin In The Free World
BAND: Neil Young
ALBUM: Freedom
YEAR: 1989
(Pulled from Greatest Hits)
I think this one goes over well it always gets people singing the chorus and dancing.  Plus its got a great message!  hahaha

TITLE: Gotta Be Somebody
BAND: Nickelback
ALBUM: Dark Horse
YEAR: 2008
Mutt Lange produced!  Thats the best part of the Dark Horse album, but this track is pretty cool, upbeat, great emotional lyrics and gets a response.

TITLE: Cherry Bomb
BAND: John Mellencamp
ALBUM: The Lonesome Jubiliee
YEAR: 1987
(Pulled from Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits)
Probably my favorite Mellencamp tune, I just think the beat is perfect and the lyrics are reflective, perfect for a New Years party!

TITLE: Rockin' Into The Night
BAND: .38 Special
ALBUM: Rockin' Into the Night
YEAR: 1980
(Pulled from Anthology)

Come on...  This is a must play!  Written by the band Survivor and given to .38 special to get their career on track.  Looks like it worked and is still working.

TITLE: Tonite Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love
BAND: April Wine
ALBUM: Frigate
YEAR: 1994
Canadian bands are very prominent in my catalog.  A product of being raised in the North West.  The BC trickle down effect impacted my musical tastes tremendously.  This song would be perfect somewhere in a New Years eve party mix!

TITLE: Tremble For My Beloved
BAND: Collective Soul
ALBUM: Dosage
YEAR: 1999
Fun song, great beat, like the lyrics!  I give it a 7.  hahaha.  No seriously its a fun track that fits a good time!

TITLE: Wild Side
BAND: Motley Crue
ALBUM: Girls Girls Girls
YEAR: 1987
Ive always thought this was a cool party tune with a great beat.  So it fits this list.

TITLE: Rockin' All Over The World
BAND: John Fogerty
ALBUM: Premonition
YEAR: 1998
I know its not the original, but I like it, I like it, I like it, I la la Like it!  And this is a great song for a party!  Why not play the version that came from a party?!

TITLE: Love of a Lifetime
BAND: Firehouse
ALBUM: Firehouse
YEAR: 1991
Last song of the night? Come on, this would knock it out of the ballpark. Unless your already passed out of course...

And finally there is a bonus track in the list for you!  Happy New Year!

Nice post Scottie! I've heard all of these, but will have it on when messing around with stuff. Considering I'm not posting a Lost/Forgotten album this week (consider it a vacation) you, Rjhog and Niels will have to hold down the fort.
Have a great vacation!
Oh, and the song(s) that come to mind for New Years Eve for me is the whole "2112" album from Rush...huge party way back when and someone had this album CRANKED.
This is great party-music, especially Neil Young, Mellencamp and Crüe. If we ever would have a party for CRB-members, that party would go on for days, and nothing but good music!!!

Scott, I think I screwed up your playlist, if you don't mind checking it.  It was unintentional.  I thought you could click the thumbs up to show you liked the song, but it looks like some songs got re-arranged.  I'm sorry dude, I won't ever do that again.

Now, to the music.  I enjoyed this.  The first two songs were awesome.  But I have a problem with Nickelback.  I used to like them a lot, but now they are truly a pop band with guitars and a good vocalist.  There stuff just gets played to death and I get very tired of hearing them.  Now, having said that, I listened to this song objectively and it's actually a well written and performed song, just overplayed.

Cherry Bomb, I used to loathe, but now it sounds quite good.  I love the groove.

The Collective Soul song is new to me, and I like it.  My first thought was early Genesis, although I don't know that music, I have heard The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (heard it on XM just a day or two ago) and this song just made me think of that.

The only other songs that didn't work for me (other than the Nickelback song) were the Fogerty tune and the Firehouse song.  Although I dig Fogerty, I just don't care for this song.  And I've never been a fan of Firehouse, though they do have an incredibly cool name.

And Niels is right, if we could ever happen to have a party, the music would be outstanding.

Doesnt appear to have messed anything up, but the template I used looks like it sorts the tracks by numbers of LIKES.  No worries.

Okay, I just couldn't get 'em back in the same order once I noticed it.
