SCOTTS HIDDEN TREASURES - (PABLO CRUISE - A Place In The Sun)

I'm back!  Did anyone miss me or SHT last week?  ...  don't everyone speak at once, geez!

Anyway, Its the 4th of July and Van already has a thread on Patriotic songs so that's cool and stuff.  I at the very least wanna post an American artist and for me Pablo Cruise is what came to mind!  Probably didn't hurt just getting back from a week at the beach either...  So here is this weeks SHT list..

PABLO CRUISE
A PLACE IN THE SUN
1977

Ive posted 3 tunes from this album because the last two are connected, so its kind of a bonus.  Your welcome...

  1. A Place In The Sun
  2. Can't You Hear The Music?
  3. Never Had A Love

This weeks hidden treasure isn't really about July 4th or American bands (Though being an American band is a good bonus for a July 4th playlist).  This one is about your first Rock and Roll concert and the lasting influence it had (or didn't have) in your musical life.  I said "Rock and Roll Concert" for a reason because my parents made me sit through a Tom T Hall concert at the Oregon state fair with my cousins when I was real young and that was my true first concert.  I've completed therapy and several 12-step programs since then and am much better now thanks...  Pablo Cruise was my first real concert experience and it was the summer before my 8th grade year in school.  I was 8 rows back from the stage and I couldn't tell you who opened for them, but when these guys played I was stunned!  mesmerized! hooked!  etc etc...

And as a bonus hidden treasure, how about that band logo?  One of the best ever!  Will Farrell wore their logo on a t-shirt in the movie Step Brothers and kind of sparked an interest in the band again.  Long story short, they've got back together and very recently released a Live album and DVD combo and its really very good!  Now I just gotta get me one of those shirts!

This band is a "Don't Want to Live Without..." band for me (get it?) and this album tops the best they have to offer IMHO...

Hope you have safe 4th and enjoy time away from work and with family!

Damn, thought this was in honor of Tom Cruise. Suckered me in, you did!

Of course you were missed. Didn't anyone tell you?

Tom Cruise..  Its a subliminal message ...  Your Thetan levels shall rise to astronomical levels if you don't like this post, and then you will have to pay mass sums of cash to Tom Cruise for auditing sessions to get you back under control!

You wouldn't want to disappoint L. Ron would you?

No sir. I am reading Dianetics right now.

I've thought about picking this up several times, but never pulled the trigger.   I'm looking forward to checking this out.  What was their biggest hit?  Was it What You Gonna Do?  I'm not sure.

Speaking of band logos, I'm feeling a tournament on the subject, maybe next Spring.

...and I'm gonna Instant Message you to turn that music down.

They actually had several hits...

Whacha Gonna Do

Love Will Find A Way

Don't Wanna Live Without It

Cool Love

and few other minor ones..  But one very cool hidden treasure is an instrumental off an album titled "Lifeline" that used to be the theme for ABC's Wide World of Sports (remember that?  The Agony of defeat!!) - the songs was titled "Zero to Sixty in Five".  And their keyboardist also made some serious cash writing for television, the theme to Baywatch was all his, and say what you want about that show, it made him some money!

They are not heavy rock, make no mistake, this is California, beach, melodic pop, but its different and I love it...

Ya know...

I always thought of Pablo Cruise as wimpy rock, but there's screeching geetar in that second song. The first song is really catchy too with plenty of geetar as well. This thir? Well, not as much.

THis means I will have to hunt me down some Pablo Cruise to add to my teensy collection. Lake, Starcastle, Pablo Cruise...what are you turning me into?

L. Ron is very proud of you!

I'll agree with Jon, the second song is definitely the best here.  The geetar is just on fire.  And it's really, really gettin' good when it cuts to the next song.
