TOP 5 Rockin' Cartoon Themes From The 60's & 70's

Ok Scott, nobody was doing a Top 5, so I took the opportunity to do a sort of self indulgent list.

Rock & Roll has always had a huge impact on our culture, you can literally see it's influence everywhere. Rock has been used heavily in cartoons, as tool to appeal to the younger generation. Before all the techno sound effects, that accompanied the cartoons of the 80's & beyond, there was good 'ol guitar, drums & reverb! There was good stuff out there! I wanna' know, which cartoon themes of 60's & 70's, do you think rocked the best?

The rules are straight forward:

1. It has to be an animated cartoon tv series from the 60's or 70's. I know that leaves out Sid & Marty Krofft, which I'm a huge fan, but we could do a Top 5 of just Sid & Marty Krofft themes.

2. It has to be an opening theme song, not a song within an episode or a closing theme.

Here's My List:

5. Spiderman

4. Josie & The Pussycats

3. Scooby Doo (Original)

2. Roadrunner

1. The Bannana Splits (Of Course)

Let's see yours!

The top 8 vote recipients are all jammed together. Need some more votes to provide separation.  Let's get some more votes in here!

I just tabulated up the results here & it appears there's a three way tie for the 2nd spot. Could I lobby for some more votes, before I have to resort to the complex tie breaker scenarios?

Ok, I'm closing out this thread! It's officially closed! Thanks to everyone who participated!

CRB's Top 5 Rockin' Cartoon Themes Are:

4. Fat Albert                                 23             2            24                0

3. Josie & The Pussycats  (Tie)       22             3            25                0

3. Roadrunner (Tie)                       22             3            25                0

1. Scooby Doo                                34             4           38                 1

"Scooby Doo" was the decisive number one! Then, there was a three way tie for 2nd. I gave the Bannana Splits received the number 2 spot, because of their first place vote, but "Roadrunner" & "Josie & The Pussycats" were at a dead heat, with the exact same scores. So, they will share the 3rd spot. Fat Albert, was one point back in the 4th spot, while Johnny Quest rounded out the Top 5, with 2 first place votes. Others receiving first place votes were the "Archies", "Pink Panther" & "Hong Kong Phooey".

No arguments from me, but I am somewhat surprised that The Archies didn't make the list at all... After all they were one of 4 cartoons mentioned here that were an actual cartoon band (Banana Splits, Fat Albert and Josey and the Pussycats being the others) so logic says they should be at least #4...

But what do I know, I'll just go back and stare at my Betty and Veronica poster...

Nice job Mike!!

Thanks Scott, I agree with you about the Archies. While they were not on my list, "Sugar Sugar" is easily the most popular  & sucessful cartoon theme song. I would have thought, they would have faired much better than 6th. Maybe, I should have made the catagory Top 5 cartoon bands? Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing all the nominees & posting the videos. Being a fan of cartoons, especially the 60's, 70,s & 80's, this was a fun catagory for me. I think rock has had a substantial impact on the toons & I just wanted to give recognition to that.

Keep it going Scott, put us up another Top 5!

Im on deck?  Cool!  I'll have something in the next couple days!
