Classic Rock Bottom

This week video's from INCUBUS, THE LAST ROCKSTAR, DARK TRANQUILLITY, VALIENT THORR, AITTALA, THE SPECIALS and FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD ("Is he f...... serious?????")

INCUBUS - PROMISES, PROMISES

Yeah yeah, I know there was an Incubus-video a couple of weeks ago, but there ain't that many interesting new video's out there at the moment. The song is taken from the bands new album “If Not now, When?“, which was released on July 12th

THE LAST ROCKSTAR - DIAMOND BABY

"I called Verne Troyer and Lemmy and Juliette Lewis and Jane Lynch is my next-door neighbor, so I asked her to do it," Matt Sorum says. "She’s so busy, she’s such a huge actress now, but then she said she’d love to do it because she’s never done a rock video or a music video. And when I told her she was going to play my butler, she was cool."Matt Sorum has changed his name in Diamond Baby to Baron Von Storm. "My former name and my former musical background I probably couldn’t do as much. I wanted to kind of dabble in a different music area," he says. "So the rock side of me is the other name – I really felt like more of a Ziggy Stardust kind of character with this."

DARK TRANQUILLITY - IRIDIUM

DARK TRANQUILLITY's guitarist Niklas Sundin was always responsible for the band's visual appearance, whether it's cover artwork and merch designs, and for the last couple of years also the live video projections. Under the name of his own design studio, Cabin Fever, he also created artwork for bands like ARCH ENEMY, TURISAS and many more. The video for the epic masterpiece, 'Iridium', from Dark Tranquillity's latest album, We Are The Void, debuts his first official film work and is based on the live video projections from the current live show.

VALIENT THORR - SLEEPER AWAKES

Venusian rockers VALIENT THORR has released a video for 'Sleeper Awakes', from their recent release, Stranger."We actually filmed enough footage for two videos for this. We filmed it in downtown Raleigh after a tornado hit, so a lot of town was torn up", says frontman, Valient Himself, adding, "After the final scene was shot, I went and got lifted with SNOOP DOGG. I kept wishing I had a green hat."

AITTALA - JULIET

Aittala has posted their first new music video from their new album, “Haunt Your Flesh” online. The video is for the song “‘Juliet” and was directed by Blake Faucette (All Aces Media) and Justin Reich (The Antimatter Studio).

THE SPECIALS - GHOST TOWN

Don't expect heavy or hard rock. This is some kind of english pop like Madness (them again, eh?) or whatever you'll call it from '81. I kind of like this one, and I remembered it the other day, and now I'll post it here:

FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD - TWO TRIBES

Well, some places around here at CRB are going the "pop-way" (Level 42, Scott?), and therefore, you'll get some pop here at VOTW too, and why not continue with another english political pop-song/video from around the same time periode. Remember this video??

I'll get to 'em.  I still have to finish the previous week's as well.  Birthday party today for 1 year old, maybe tomorrow, if not then sometime next week I'll catch up.

INCUBUS ... .5 points
IncuBUS or IncuBUST? Their new stuff would suggest the latter, and while I think the song gets off to a nice start the vocal performance isnt working for me and the lyrics are just .. oh whats the word Im looking for ... um ... stupid! Ya thats it! The video production is not too bad however. But I'm only willing to go a half of a point

THE LAST ROCKSTAR ... 1 point
So whats the name of this band? "The Last Rockstar" or "Diamond Baby" - no matter. I dont have any feeling one way or the other for the song, the video however is interesting in spite of the guest star appearances.

DARK TRANQUILLITY ... unrated
Predictably, this is nowhere near a style I would enjoy listening to, so I wont...

VALIENT THORR ... 0 points
I was really digging the opening riff and then they changed the tempo and started singing. Whoops! -1 for the song, I'll balance that out due to a decent video that I felt was pretty inventive for such an obviously low budget affair.

AITTALA ... unrated
Predictably, this is nowhere near a style I would enjoy listening to, so I wont... Hey wait a second, I have this weird DejaVu thing going on...

Incubus (4/10)

Damn, this band has gone so far down hill.

Diamond Baby (5/10)

Too "pop" for me.  She sounds like Pink.  Video is just okay.

Dark Tranquillity (4/10)

While in general, I don't care for this style of music, occasionally I'll come across a song from this genre that strikes me in a good way.  This ain't one of 'em.  And the video looks like a lot of work on somebody's part, but I'm not a comic book fan.

Valient Thorr (2/10)

While the video doesn't suck as much as the song, it still ain't all that great.  A couple of funny parts, but nothing really redeeming here.

Aittala (5/10)

I still don't like the song.  Haven't really liked on yet.  However, the video was interesting.  I kept watching 'cause I wanted to see if she escaped.  She was attractive.  That has nothing to do with anything, just thought I'd say it.

The Specials (2/10)

Nope.  This is no better.  Don't like it.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood (5/10)

Hey, pop is okay when it's good.  This is the second song that I've ever heard by FGTH, and you know what the other one is.  It's not that I like it, but it's just as good as anything else here.  The video is just there.

I was planning to post a Kiss-video, next time around, but CRB looks almost like KISSONLINE these days, so it won't happen. Whatelet video do you think, I had in mind?
Well, from your computer tone, I'd say Shandi.  Jon and I both know you can never get too much Kiss, so I don't see why you don't do what you were planning.  It's not like more than two folks pay attention to what I post in the Kiss group anyway.  C'mon man, just do it.
Alright then. And it's NOT Shandi!!
