ROCKOLLECTIONS: BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE PT.1

BTO- Bachman Turner Overdrive.
That’s the featured group this outing, and it's a re-run from 2008- back when I was with good old Engineer Ken Stanley.
BTO were from Winnipeg, Canada, and you'll hear me say it's a place that once had an NHL hockey team- they lost it in 1996.
Those people live the game as I do, the city is famous for it’s cold winters and I would no doubt love living there.
No problem finding a place to skate there!
But things have changed since this was originally recorded and I am happy to say they got their beloved Jets back in 2011.
And it looks like Hockey WILL be played this year, although I am pissed about the whole mismanagement of that lockout fiasco!
Oh, this is about Rock & Roll right, lol...so I’ll have the band’s bio.
I will be playing their hits, and of course their just plain good songs too- one of which has legendary Little Richard on piano!
It seems to me they had 2 separate sounds- one a hard-rocking one, the other with definite jazz stylings.
We will explore and give a healthy dose of both in this two-parter.
And wait until you hear the unbelievable story of how the band was signed, after being rejected 26 times.
Truly amazing, and I will be playing the song that did it from the 7 1/2 inch demo tape.
Some good vibes and memories in this one, with more to come.

Scott,
Not sure if the timing is great, since you just got a remaster that will sound better than what I might play, lol!
Actually this is an old show, I don't focus on one band or artist much anymore.
I prefer to pick a Theme and just go with that, leading me all over the place.
Although it is much easier to just pull out 3 or 4 albums by a band- now that I think about it, it is far less work than running all over the house trying to find an old song I need to play, by an obscure artist, that is to me vital in that Theme
Hey, I LOVE the Kinks, lol!
Another Golden Pell goes to Take it Like a Man, you and RJ agree.
Bacon, Tomato, and Oreo!  Now that's a winning combination...?
Would the Bacon & Tomato go IN the Oreo?
Or all 3 go on Toast?
I'll be in the Lab, testing, lol!
Thanks for listening and writing,
Mike

Great timing Mike!  I just scored a fresh Remaster of Not Fragile and Four Wheel Drive on one CD.  Great great stuff!!!

I love this band.  One of the most underrated guitar bands ever, even though they scored a ton of hits and had wild success.  Great show and love the subject matter.  Focusing on one band is cool, and its not the Kinks!  Yes!

Golden Pell goes to Take it Like a Man, cool tune!

Bacon, Tomato, and Oreo!  Now that's a winning combination...

Jon,
Hahahahaha...the stories were more interesting than the music!
A tough man to please!
It's true though, my mellifluous tones have put many a person to sleep, lol!
Glad you could remain awake.
I like both their rock and jazzy stuff.
Franly I don't remember if I played your Vegas tune, Welcome Home.
We'll find out later tonight.
Thanks for the listen and writing...and onion and some killer jam and marmalade for this man too, lol,
Mike

RJ,
So that's what the O stands for...onion, lol!
The Golden Pell goes to Take It Like A Man.
And I will, lol!
I was trying naturally to play songs people have never heard or at least not in a long time.
Talk about jazzy, I remember it wasn't until I was gathering songs for the show that I realized how much I like Looking Out For Number One.
Let It Ride is a great tune, and I am sure your sister appreciated you wearing it out, lol!
Thanks for the listen and writing...and more onion for this man,
Mike

You know what? The stories were more interesting than the music! Not that the music was bad, but I'm sure we've heard a majority of these songs many, many times. So it's the stories with Mike's lovely lilting voice telling it in the way only he can. And this time I didn't drift off to sleep!

About 10 years ago, there was a song played on the radio in Vegas. I thought it was really cool since it went from hard rock to jazz and back to hard rock, and I was surprised that it was BTO. I like their jazzy stuff like  "Lookin' Out For #1" but he song they played was "Welcome Home" which I still think is a killer jam.

I dig me some BTO (not bacon, tomato and onion).

The Golden Pell is easy.  There's only one song I hadn't heard, so it goes to Take It Like A Man.  That's a really good song with a very good guitar solo.

All of these other songs are terrific.  This band put down some great rock music and guitar work, and even sounded jazzy at times, like Looking Out For Number One.

My favorite from this show is Let It Ride.  I absolutely love BTO II.  My sister had the LP when I was a kid and I wore it out.
