ROCKOLLECTIONS: SALUTE TO RADIO- SEX AND THE RADIO

Still Saluting Radio, and now over 15 years ago I did the first Rock & Roll show at a station that never played that Music.
Back then it was quite a bit different- more emphasis on my talk rather than Music.
I would read the Billboard album reviews and tell what were the top 10 or 20 songs on the charts.
But the most fun thing was Engineer Ken and I each time wondering what we could get away with.
Could I play 2 songs in a row without coming back on in between, could I play an 8-minute song and get away with it, could I do a whole hour dedicated to one Theme holding the songs together?
All these things developed slowly, as each week I would try something different until the show evolved into what it is now- which is how I always envisioned it.
I am VERY happy with it, and have been for the last 4 or 5 years!
This will be a fun episode, beginning with an old song about something I bet we have all done.
Then the heart of the Chapter, what I am calling Sex And The Radio.
That should arouse your interest- or arouse something!
Don't worry, it's strictly platonic, so join me, lol!

As far as the 3am song goes, I wasn't thinking bar and drinks and extremely hot chick, I was thinking curled up in your house, sitting beside the window, peering out of said window to see who or what was out there that was freaking you out.  But I do appreciate a hot chick.

RJ,
Oh I am at my best on a Monday morning, lol!
That Barefoot Jerry has been haunting me for years, finally remembered to play it.
With sports, I know a lot of people who prefer the radio play-by-play to the TV announcers.
I think that was at its peak during the Howard Cosell years.
But that's the ONLY time you've ever watched TV while listening to the radio?
Damn, I do it all the time with sports, except for my beloved Islanders Hockey games.
And not another announcer, not even radio anymore but Music on with the TV sound off.
Come to think of it, not only sports- sound muted, Music on!
Didn't you suggest the Gary Allan?
And I said I was waiting for the right time.
I hadn't played that Eric Carmen in years, but I thought it worked.
Now this is a surprise for the Golden Pell- Static On The Radio by Jim White.
I thought Carmen or Costello for you...maybe Barefoot Jerry as a dark horse.
It does sound like something that you should be listening to at about 3 AM, in a small club with drinks at a candlelit table, and a good-looking lady sitting with you, lol!
This is great, no one else has said anything about it, so I am so pleased you picked up on it.

And I love this line, "if you like your radio, you can keep your radio".    Terrific.

You being sharp is appreciated by me, and you know where I am coming from.
Thanks for the listen and writing, and being sharp, lol,
Mike

Jon,
I've been meaning to play that Barefoot Jerry for years.
looks like you and RJ both liked that Static On The Radio- how'd that happen, lol?
What, you never bit your cheek?
Elvis Costello can be inconsistent, but a lot of his older stuff rocks!
I guess I didn't have enough Sex in there for you,,,how about Violence?
Finally, although I admitted to biting my cheek, I never revealed that I did that whole show in just my briefs!
No shirt, barechested, no socks...nothing...I repeat nothing, but teeny underwear briefs, lol!
Try not to get sick again.
Thanks for the listen and writing, glad you thought it was good,
Mike

Good show for a Monday morning.

Barefoot Jerry.  Terrible band name, but cool song.  The only time I've ever watched TV while listening to the radio is during UGA football games.   Not anymore, but back when Larry Munson was alive.  It was a real treat to listen to him call a football game.  You can actually find a highlight reel of his most famous calls on youtube.

I am a fan of Gary Allan.  Great choice with this song.  And I like the Eric Carmen song too.  It's just so dang catchy.

That Elvis Costello song was nice.  His voice even reminded me of Phil Lynott a bit. but this time he doesn't get the Golden Pell.  That goes to.........................

Static On The Radio by Jim White.  That sounds like something that you should be listening to at about 3am.

And I love this line, "if you like your radio, you can keep your radio".    Terrific.

Barefoot Jerry. Too funny. Good song, though.

Static On The Radio was a really nice song. Really mellow, but good.

I would go thru every song, but won't. I would mock you for biting your cheek, but won't.

What I WILL say is that this was a really good show. The Elvis Costello song wasn't too bad either. SOme of his stuff I like, some not so much.

Actually, you had me at "sex". So, of course this was good. But where was the sexiness? At least you weren't nekkid again, that's good.
