What's The 4-1-1?

The Lancaster, Pennsylvania based band are in your face with their fourth studio album mixing their indie rock sensibilities with high end melodies and thoughtful lyrics.

Genre

Rock / Indie Rock / Alternative Rock

The Good

I found the music on the album to be almost uniformly excellent. I'm not sure what I was expecting based solely on the impression given by the band name and promo information, but the band really can rock. The guitar work is pretty good. I loved the solo on "Wildflower" and the melodies of "Ink" were excellent.

I was very pleased to find a bevy of songs that I really enjoyed and want to hear over and over again. I'd recommened the songs "Believe", "The Wave" and "Wake Up. The two best songs, however, are "Warmer" which as a great fast tempo rhythm and a fantastic chorus and the song "Miracle Drug" which is an acoustic ballad that closes the disc.

The Bad

While I liked the melodies on "Ink", the lyrics were too repetitive for my liking. I didn't care for the ballad "Moth and Rust". I didn't hate the vocals, but I do see where the rather high pitched singing for most of the songs may put off some listeners. The vocals are being compared to The Cure's Robert Smith and while that is an apt comparison, I heard a bit of the early vocal work from U2's Bon in there as well. It's pretty good in general but it could be somthing that grow to wearing on the ears.

The Verdict

The material outshines the minor quibbles I have with it overall. The musicianship is absolutely fantastic and the guitar work is supremely fascinating. Nothing Here Is Perfect is a pretty solid album and here's hoping the CD gets some mainstream notice.
