Classic Rock Bottom

I just realized that we don't have a football thread.  So I'm starting one.  Use it as you will.  Here are some football thoughts from me:

1.  I prefer NCAA football to the NFL, but I do keep up somewhat with the NFL.

2.  My team is the Georgia Bulldogs, as I graduated from UGA.

3.  Of course, living in Georgia, the Atlanta Falcons are my favorite pro team.

4.  Probably my favorite non-Atlanta all time team would be the Miami Dolphins, specifically the Larry Csonka era.

5.  My favorite all-time player is Herschel Walker.

6.  My first college football game was in 1975, UGA beat Clemson 35-7.

7.  I saw the Georgia-Vandy game when Herschel Walker set his personal single game yardage record of 283.

8.  I think the Superbowl is overrated, but I usually watch it.

9.  The team I most like to see suffer is the Florida Gators.

10.  I love watching hits like this:

Big football fan here:

1. I like both college and pro football, but I think I lean more towards pro football if I have to make a choice.

2. I have two college teams that I follow (Alabama and Boston College).

3. My favorite pro team is the New England Patriots.

4. My non Patriots team would be the Super Bowl Shuffle-era of the Chicago Bears.

5. All-Time favorite player: Walter Payton.

6. Never been to a college or pro game.

7. I saw all three Patriot Super Bowl wins, great great sporting moments!

8. The Super Bowl is overrated but still fun to watch. Though if the Patriots aren't in the game, my interest is lessened.

9. The team I like to see suffer: Well it used to be the Colts, but now it is the Jets.

10. Great hit, I actually posted the link to the full Yahoo article on that hit in today's sports blog post.

Some key Highlights...

  • Raised to be a Packer fan and a Cowboy hater
  • Live in Charlotte so gotta love my Panthers too!
  • Go Big Sky! Which also means my Alma-mater will never be a factor in college football - so I really love Boise State.
  • Atlanta is a waste of playoff space!
  • And the Denver Broncos are second only to Dallas in hatorade from me
  • My secondary teams would be San Diego, Houston, Tennessee

Tonight my hometown team, the Carolina Panthers take on the G-men of Metropolis, I mean New Jersey, uhhh... New York (they are geographically challenged afterall)

When all's said and done the Panthers will turn heads and make people take notice!

Panthers by 9...

UGH...

Not.

1-I am a diehard NFL fan, college football for some reason bores me to tears.

2-I have no favorite college team.

3-My favorite pro team is the Dallas Cowboys.

4-My favorite non Cowboys team is the Green Bay Packers, but I enjoy watching most NFL teams.

5-My all-time favorite player is Roger Staubach.

6-I have been to both college and pro grames.

7-I have been following football since I was 5 and have seen every Superbowl since.

8-The last several Superbowls have been very close and entertaining. For awhile it was overrated with so many blowouts but that has changed. To me if anything is overrated it is the college bowls though that is going to be better with a playoff. You have way too many bowls with mediocre teams and one of the reasons I could never get into college football was because I don't want Polls or a computer deciding who the champion is. The new playoff system they are about to start is an improvement but still not sufficient.

9-The teams I like to see suffer are the Eagles and Redskins.

10-A few other items. I would like to see the NFL require all retractable roof stadiums to be open for at least six home games a year. Weather is a part of the experience in my opinion.

11-I would like to see college football not put out polls until after the first month of the season.

12-All 53 active players on an NFL roster should be active to play instead of only having 48 eligible currently.

13-I would like to see the NFL return to the old days (over twenty years ago) of a 15 minute halftime (instead of 12 minutes) to allow fans more time to get to their seats and teams to plot strategy and college football to go down to a fifteen minute halftime.

14-The NFL should go on and add a team in Los Angeles (they keep talking about it) and one additional team which should be added in a market that has never had an NFL team before but would have a strong fanbase. Texas and Florida have enough college and pro teams.

15-In the world of high school football, the season is starting too early especially in hot weather cities with some high schools playing as early as in August.

16-At the end of college football season, there should not be such a long delay before bowl games begin.

Not a big fan of Fig Newton, but I do like Thomas Davis (Go Dawgs!).  Aren't they playing the Saints?  Out of all of the NFC teams left, I'd prefer to see Carolina make it to the Super Bowl.

got the fourty-whiners here at home, sunday at 1

Dang, see how much I pay attention to the NFL?

47.1 million people watched the 49ers defeat the Packers last weekend. That's about 20 million more than the numbers they got for the National Championship on College Football. Last weekend was one of the greatest Wild Card Weekends ever with every game being compelling especially the Colts rallying from 28 down to defeat the Chiefs. I love the NFL.
