THOUGHTS ON THE FIRST THIRD OF 2011 MUSICALLY

Do you have any thoughts on the year in music so far for 2011?  If so, what are they?  For me:

 

1.  I have purchased 8 CD's so far that have been released in 2011.  It has been an exceptionally weak year to this point. 

 

2.  My favorite CD from 2011 so far is Foo Fighters' Wasting Light.  And it's not even close.  This album is stocked with exceptional songs, outstanding vocals by Dave Grohl and great 3 guitar work.  One thing that amazes me is the lack of guitar solos on a guitar driven album.  But so far that's the only negative here. 

 

3. My Top 5 so far (don't have enough to make a Top 10):

    1. Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

    2. Eden's Curse - Trinity

    3. Mr. Big - What If

    4. Hurtsmile - Hurtsmile

    5. Brian Robertson - Diamonds & Dirt

 

4. Biggest Disappointment so far is Whitesnake's Forevermore.  Musically, it's outstanding.  But as I've said before, Coverdale sounds awful on the majority of the CD.  He totally ruins it for me.

I don't have much of anything coming out that I'm interested in buying. Which in a way is good because I probably wouldn't have the money if there were a lot of things.

 

Now if we were talking books, I'm screwed. This week alone 7 paperbacks came out by authors that I read.

 

Most of the new CDs in my collection this year are NEW TO ME, as evidenced by the Old CDs Reviewed Anew threads I've been doing.
