Classic Rock Bottom

I have to make this a little bit early this week,(and probably also next?!) but here is this week's VOTW, yet again with 5 new and 2 classic video's, and there MIGHT be some cheesefactor, in BOTH classic video's?? Here we go:

THREE DOORS DOWN - WHEN YOU'RE YOUNG

"When You're Young" is the first single from 3 Doors Down's fifth studio album, Time of My Life. The single was released to iTunes on February 1, 2011. It is now their 10th top 10 single on the mainstream rock chart. From the coming album "Time of my life".

RISE AGAINST - HELP IS ON THE WAY

Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1999.This is a new single from their new album Endgame, their sixth studio album. The album is produced by Bill Stevenson, whoever that is, and it was released on March 15, 2011.

ART OF DYING - DIE TRYING

Art of Dying is a Canadian rock band fronted by Jonny Hetherington. The band has built an international following since 2006 touring with Seether and Disturbed as well as performing at international festivals such as Download and Virginfest alongside artists like Tool, Metallica and Deftones. This is the album-opener from their new album "Vices and Virtues".

MY PASSION - THE MESS WE MADE OF OUR LIVES

My Passion are an English band formed in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England in 2005. They released their debut album, Corporate Flesh Party, in May 2009. This is from the coming album "Inside This Machine".

PANIC! AT THE DISCO - THE BALLAD OF MONA LISA

Panic! at the Disco is a American rock duo, formed in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2004. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Brendon Urie (lead vocals, guitar, piano), and Spencer Smith (drums). Original and former members Ryan Ross (guitar) and Jon Walker (bass) left the group in 2009. The band has been described by critics as a variety of genres, most commonly pop punk, alternative rock, and baroque pop. This is from the new album "Vices & Virtues"!!!! That's right: The same title as the new Art Of Dying-album!! How weird, eh?

LITA FORD - KISS ME DEADLY

The Runaway-guitarist and her "hit" from 1988, from the album simply called "Lita". This track was actually named the 76th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. Yeah, right!!

ICON - ON YOUR FEET

Icon is an American heavy metal/glam metal band that formed in 1981, disbanding in 1990. This is from their debut-album from 1984, and was apparently a big metal radio hit song. Any Cheesefactor, you think?

THREE DOORS DOWN ... .5 points
Is it just me or do these guys seem to be writing the same song over and over.  Its a good song though!  But its kinda like, if you own one of their albums you own them all.  .5 points for a good song and ok video.

RISE AGAINST ... .5 points
Emotional video for sure.  Liked it for the most part, but didn't care for the suggestiveness of their politics.  Thats just my take, you may view it differently.  The song on the other hand was ok, liked the riff in the middle of it, could used more of that, hated the cookie monster vocal attempts as usual.  .5 again for both.

ART OF DYING ... 0 points
"I think its time for me to go now, Ive done more harm than good", how prophetic were these opening lyrics?  Then he sings "I wish I knew then what I know now", again 100% accurate as I was just thinking, if I knew this song was going to be this bad, I wouldnt have clicked the play button.  Lets just say as a prophet he's batting a thousand!  I wouldnt buy his music but I may join his church!  0 points...

Lita Ford - 2 points! - Love the song, love the video, Love Lita.

3 Doors Down (0)

I once liked 3DD a good bit.  But I can only echo Scott's comments here.  Write a new song.  And write a fast song.  This slow stuff is getting boring as hell.  It's not a bad song, and would be better by someone else.  This band is too good to keep writing songs like this.  And the video is unremarkable to me.

Rise Against (1)

I like the video.  I always have a soft spot in my heart for this kind of tragedy.  The song was going pretty good as well until the cookie monster vocals.  There was no need for 'em.

Art Of Dying (-1)

This time, the song was unremarkable, but the video was crap.  Why did I spend 4 minutes watching this dude walk?

My Passion (-1)

The song is really not bad.  It's somewhat catchy, but not good enough to give a point.  The video is kinda hard to watch.  To much gold and not enough shirts.  I do have some great career advice for this band.  Either put on some shirts or get some hot chicks in the band...

Panic! At The Disco (1)

I'm not a big fan of alternative rock, but sometimes a song just works for me for some reason.  This would be one of those times.  And although it has a pop vibe to it, I still like it.  I can really hear this song being rocked up a little more with Gary Cherone doing it.  But the video doesn't move me in any way.

Lita Ford (1)

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Lita's music, although this song isn't bad.  And I also don't think she's particularly attractive.  She's just not my type.  However, that being said, this video is sexy as hell!  The way she slaps the floor and stretches out her leg.  Wow!  My memory is fuzzy, but it seems like she had an even better video around the same time where there was a think layer of water on the stage or floor.  Does anybody else remember that?

Icon (-2 / Cheese Factor 8)

This one has cheese all over it.  The hair, the clothing, the drummer that looks like he's having a seizure, the laser from the guitar, the goofy band members in the video, and the cheesy song.  This is why people want to forget the 80's.

MY PASSION ... 0 points
Didnt the Chilli Peppers do the metallic body painting once before?  Why Yes!  Yes they did! Im still waiting for the next cool thing to come along, this isnt it!  0 points...

PANIC AT THE DISCO ... 0 points
I asked my sons about this band awhile back and they laughed at me.  So thats all the chance I ever gave them.  Looks like they were right.  0 points.

LITA FORD ... 1.5 points
Im in the "Lita Ford is HOT" club!  And lets face facts here, add a guitar and she only gets hotter!  Im even ok with the Acid Wash jeans.  1.5 points mostly for the video because her music isnt really that interesting.

ICON ... 0 points, cheese factor 7
Ripped wife-beater, really obnoxious big hair, really bad special effects, the guitar solo in the Big Brother hall was really dumb, add that with a really boring song and we get 0 points with a cheese factor of 7.

Man, you're a tough customer!

Sorry Niels, I hope you dont take any of that personally, I'm just struggling to get into the new rock sound from a lot of these bands and the old 80's rock videos are a blast to pick at.

I think you do a great job finding new stuff for us and I do enjoy seeing and hearing bands Ive never heard or seen before.

Three Doors Down---1/2 point

Song isn't really that bad. Considering I have never bought a TDD album and probably never will, wouldn't know if it sounded like anything else. At least it doesn't sound like that Superman song. And are these guys really friggin' old????

Rise Against--1/2 point

All for the video, seems like they're trying to do some good. As for the song, nah. Don't like the herky jerky geetar. And guess what? I don't have a problem with the CM vocals. HA!

Art Of Dying---0 points

Song didn't really appeal to me, but I did lkike the sound of the geetars. Anyone know what amps they use? I'm really interested. Video was a video that I watched and that was about it.

My Passion---2 points to the minus

I want to watch some Bond...James Bond now. Song sucks, video sucks. My passion is to never ever ever ever hear or see this again.

Panic! At The Disco---1 point

I actually liked this song and liked the video. Guy was creepy evil to the good! Probably wouldn't buy this album, but it's was enjoyable. Kinda dug the clothes, especially the cog suit.

Lita Ford---2 minus points

The song absolutely sucked back then and it sucks now. As for the video...to much preening and posing. And Niels hit it on thehead...the 76th best hard rock song OF ALL TIME? Are you kidding? Give me Joan Jett any day.

Icon--1 minus point, cheeziness 5

A hit on radio where exactly? The big brother part was halfway interesting, but didn't realize till the end that they were just sitting around watching a video while getting facials. Thought it was deeper. And one thing that was really chessy was the lead singer doing something (pointing, lifting the cover off the box) and then turning to the camera and singing. Don't know why Rjhog didn't like the awesomeness of the lasers.

I certainly though of Ace Frehley when I saw that.
