Classic Rock Bottom

Since the inaugural version was such a rousing success*, the power that be (there can be only one!) has decided it's time for another music challenge.

The rules are simple:

Starting 5/1/14 (that's May 1st of the year 2014 for those that have problems with numbers), you will have 31 (thirty-one) days to listen to 30 (thirty) albums. No, not just ANY albums, but a specific genre of albums.

Last November's challenge was easy. Five (5) albums each from the 60's (sixties), 70's (seventies), 80's (eighties), 90's (nineties) and 00's (umm....zeroes zeroes?). Simple. Those that completed that challenge were given to opportunity to pick a specific genre for the next challenge, which is THIS challenge.

So, you're probably asking yourself "What are the categories, or genres, this time?" Well, we don't know yet. We're making you wait and giving you ample time to get prepared. We're like that.

For those that complete the challenge, you'll be given the opportunity to pick a category for an upcoming challenge, just like those that completed the inaugural challenge. Yep, we're nice like that.

You can keep a running tally of your albums in this post. The only requirements are the album title, artist and what challenge category it falls into. You can also wait to post until you're done with the challenge. Either way is perfectly fine. We're easy like that.

All you need to do now is wait. Wait for the categories to appear below. Wait, but breathe. Always remember to breathe.

Actually, I'm debating whether youtube is acceptable. What we're kinda trying to do is have people go thru their collection, maybe listen to stuff they haven't listened to for awhile or maybe something they forgot they even have. But, it'll be a honor system since Scott will probably cheat somehow.

I definitely have to use Spotify, since I've got zero Disco and maybe only a couple of Punk-albums.

That's why this may be a problem.  Categories like punk, disco and classical on their own are to restricting.  I don't own 5 cd's total from these 3 different categories that are looming.  And I've looked, Youtube and complete classical albums are not meshing well.  If it was one category that said listen to 5 cd's from the following categories: punk, disco, classical and country or something along that line, I could comply with no problem.

If the spirit is to get folks to reconnect with their own collections, we need to broaden the categories.

If others think some categories are too restricting, let me know. Personally I'm good with everything showing so far, but we need to make sure everyone has a fair chance to complete each category.

Could we combine them in some logical way? El. A combination of 5 disco or new wave related albums from the 75 to 80 era. ..

I'm not trying to complain, this is Jon's baby.  But Jon said that using youtube was not the spirit that he intended.  I want to participate of course, but I do not own 5 classical albums.  Same for disco or punk.  But I could probably come up with a combination of some sort.

What about 5 disco, new wave or punk albums? Kinda stinks though since I know a lot of people own new wave albums. Or you can hit the years of disco/punk/new wave and come up with something that everyone can participate in.

You could stipulate no more than two of any of the choices.

Whatever the peep wants as long as it's fair to everyone.

Jeff, I can help you out with the Punk & Classical categories.

Okay, thanks dude.

So the soundtrack has to be all disco?

Please, Mike, list some examples of punk albums, preferably old ones that run around 30 minutes.
