Classic Rock Bottom

Some of my favorite guitar-solo's are solo's that are not very "technical".

I love it, when Eddie Van halen plays "Erouption", and stuff like that, but sometimes, there are great songs, that have becomed even greater because of a rather simple, but GREAT guitar-solo.

I have 3 favorites, that sends shivers down my spine allmost every time, I hear the solo:

1. Worlds greatest lover - Cheap Trick (solo: Rick Nielsen)

2. Got to choose - KISS (solo: Ace Frehley)

3. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty (solo: Hugh Burns)

Have anybody got any similar favorites?

I'll give this some thought and reply again later, but I wanted to say that I just ordered "City To City" by Gerry Rafferty a couple of days ago from Amazon and I'm really looking forward to it arriving. It will be an AOTW soon. And I agree, that song and solo are outstanding. Of course, I dig Ace's work, a good example would be Save Your Love off of Dynasty. And I'll listen to World's Greatest Lover today if I can.

This is a little off subject, but still about great guitar work. I think I should add this to my list on favorite guitarists group page:

I agree, that Ace's solo on "Save your love" is great, but it's not a solo, that I would call "simple". Maybe it's a bit too difficult to explain, what I mean.
One of my favorite guitar-solo's is the "Shock me"-solo, but that's definetly not "simple" either.
Most of Rick Nilsen's solo's were/is "simple".
Okay, I'll add the songs, so the guitar-solo's can be heard here:

Rick Nielsen's solo starts at 3.55

Ace's solo start's at 2:25

Hugh Burns's solo start's at 5:00

Okay, I follow you now. Tell me if this is more along the lines of what you are talking about:

Yeah, you could say, that the solo at around 2:40 is good and simple.
One of my all time favorite solo's is Eddie Van Halen's in "So this is love". Simple and to the point.
Absolutely. That's a good one. I had forgotten about that solo.
I was listening to Crosby, Stills and Nash yesterday and realized this song fits this thread.

I've got yet another one: Paul Stanley's own guitar-solo on "Hold me,Touch Me". Good and simple!!!

My least favorite song on that album, but it is a good, simple solo.  It fits this thread perfectly.
