Classic Rock Bottom

Have you ever been cruising down the highway, or just sitting around the office for that matter, when a song that you’ve never heard before comes on and you think, “that song is magnificent”?  Well, I know I have.  Basically what you are hearing, in my opinion, is a hidden gem.  At least it was hidden from you in some way, shape or form.  And you don’t necessarily have to discover it on a radio station.   You may have a friend that turned you on to it, or you may have purchased a classic CD and discovered something that you never knew existed.  You may have even read about it or heard it right here on Classic Rock Bottom.

I think its wonderful coming across these “new” songs, although some of them are very old.  So this thread is for you to come back to time and time again to post those “newly found hidden gems”.

My first addition to this thread is a song I just discovered about 2 weeks ago. I bought The Rolling Stones "Goats Head Soup" and was floored by the song "100 Years Ago". I absolutely love the guitar work on it. One thing that I noticed while reading the Wikipedia entry for this song was this quote:

Taylor performs the song's guitars while Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts perform bass and drums, respectively.

Now, I'm no Rolling Stones expert at all, but I thought Keith Richards was the guitar guru for that band. I'd love to hear more information on this subject from some of you guys who are better educated in Rolling Stones history.
I also discovered two new hidden gems yesterday. Mike Pell is a member of Classic Rock Bottom (I like to call our members including myself Bottom Feeders, so if you ever read that, it's not a putdown, just a nickname) and he posts a great blog that features his free form radio show. His most recent show featured the songs "Mad Mad Me" by Maria Muldaur and "Insanity Comes Quietly To The Structured Mind" by Janis Ian. These are both lyrical masterpieces and I especially like the vocal performance by Janis Ian on the latter. You can check these songs out for yourself by clicking on this link:

Well, the first hidden gem (for me, at least) that came to mind, was when we earlier this year made the Group "Favorite songs" on CRR (the Group still exist here on CRB). One of Issac's favorite songs was Billy Preston's "That's the way God planned it" and I had not heard that song before, I could'nt remember it, anyway, but I thought it was a GREAT song!!!
