TOP 5 ROCKIN' CHRISTMAS CLASSICS
There are certain songs that a must listen every Christmas! Of Course, you have the classics Gene Autry's Rudolph, Jimmy Durante's Frosty, Burl Ives Holly Jolly Christmas, but through the years just about every rock artist has given their stab at one or more of the Chrismas classics & some have even written their very own. So, what's your favorites? There are a lot to choose from! Maybe, we can generate "CRB's Ultimate Rockin' Christmas Playlist" from the results!
Here are my favorites:
1. I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake
2. Peace On Earth (The Little Drummer Boy) David Bowie/Bing Crosby
3. Canon Rock - Trans Siberian Orchestra
4. Snoopy Christmas (Christmas Bells) - The Royal Guardsmen
5. Do They Know It's Christmas - Band-Aid
Tags:
1. War Is Over (Merry Christmas) - John Lennon
2. Merry X-Mas Everybody - Slade
3. Cold, Cold Christmas - Dana (Not exactly ROCK, but I like it)
4. December Will Be Magic Again- Kate Bush
5. Christmas Time - The Darkness
But I really don't like Christmas Pop-songs, except for these 5 ones.
I figured someone would name War Is Over & I've heard the Slade. Not familiar with the rest. I'll check them out. There's a song by Sinead O'Conner called I Believe In You that's really good.
I probably only know 5, so this may be easy...
1 - Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
2 - War Is Over (Merry Christmas) - John Lennon
3 - Do They Know Its Christmas - Band Aid
4 - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - John Mellencamp
5 - The Chanukah Song - Adam Sandler
Excellent choices! I know everybody loves the Boy George part, but too me the coolest thing about the Band-Aid song, is the part where you have Bono, Sting & Simon Lebon singing.
5. War Is Over (Merry Christmas)
4. Snoopy's Christmas - The Royal Guardsmen
3. I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake
2. Please Come Home For Christmas - Eagles
1. Same Old Lang Syne - Dan Fogelberg
Totally space out that Eagles tune! I am considering a revision
It's a toss up between that and the Fogelberg song for me for all-time favorite. Both are great songs. The Fogleberg tune seems like it would be a New Years song, but the lyrics say, "Met my old lover in a grocery store, the snow was falling Christmas Eve".
Good call on the Eagles! I've always considered, Sme Old Aung Syne a New Years tune, but your argument is valid, it will be the last song on the CRB Ultimate Rockin' Playlist.
5. The Kinks--Father Christmas
4. David Bowie & Bing Crosby--Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy
3. Billy Squier--Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You
2. Queen--Thank God Its Christmas
1. Savatage/TSO--Christmas/Sarajevo 12/24 (plus anything else from TSO's Xmas albums)
Jon, you never disappoint! I knew you would bring some obscurity to the playlist. Nothing like a little Savatage to get you in the Christmas spirit! I was hoping someone named the The Kinks, I love that song! Queen & Billy Squire are nice additions!
Excellent choice on the Savatage/TSO, you're absolutely right, all the TSO stuff is Incredible!!! I chose one song, but they are all deserving! Thanks, for adding another to the playlist!
