ROCKOLLECTIONS: MARDI GRAS PT.2

I'll close out the Mardi Gras here, but will be staying in New Orleans for another show next week I am pretty sure, but maybe in the future.
Depends on a few variables.
The opening song in this last half of Mardi Gras may surprise you- a B-side of a single by a…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: MARDI GRAS PT.1

Well these Tuesdays in February have certainly been eventful.

This week it is Fat Tuesday, last day of the Mardi Gras, and the last time to party like crazy before Lent begins the next day.

I'll have songs relating to Mardi Gras, naturally- beginning with the New Orleans legend Professor Longhair, and his classic that pops up every year for the Carnival.

Plus the story of the disputed Jockamo, the song innocently…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY! PT.2 END

I trust most of you had a nice St. Valentine's Day!
And I'll do my best to continue the feelings here in the last half.
But while most Valentines are Red, sometimes they are more appropriately Blue.…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY! PT.1

It's not often when one of these things falls on the day of the show...so I will take full advantage of it.

You will most certainly know it is Valentine's Day by the time I am finished, lol!

For me, the centerpiece of this show is a set of music I thought to play decades ago.

It will be heard in this first half, and after all these years it still works for me...hope it does for you.

And just for some of the usual…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL.3- THE FINAL COVERED BY THE BEATLES PT.2 END

I'll close out the Beatles For Sale album with a couple of Carl Perkins songs.
As I state in the show, it is food for thought that when they were together, the Beatles released 3 Carl Perkins songs but never an Elvis one...very interesting!
We'll hear an almost…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL.3- THE FINAL COVERED BY THE BEATLES PT.1

February 7th 1964, 48 years ago TODAY, the Beatles arrived in America at New York's JFK Airport!

2 days later they did their first live performance here on the Ed Sullivan show.

And that quite simply changed music forever!

What better way to remember than with some of their Beatlemania-era early songs?

And this will be the final Covered By The Beatles…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: IN PRAISE OF LAZINESS PT.2 END

Man, I am good at this laziness!

Gonna open the 2nd half with a song that was a big hit in England in the 60’s- not over here.

But if you were listening here in those early FM radio days, you should have no trouble remembering it.

If you had to pick, what is the best time of day to be lazy?

I’ll give you my musical answer.

Later in, I…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: IN PRAISE OF LAZINESS PT.1

During my self-imposed exile from the radio station, I became lazy.

As much as I love doing the shows, I enjoyed being lazy- it was fun!

No picking out songs, no mad scrambling for songs…no going into Manhattan in the morning.

And I am still lazy.

That’s enough information- this two-parter is called In Praise Of Laziness.

Think I might have “Lazy” songs?

You’ll just have to…

TOM PETTY'S HIGHWAY COMPANION PT.2 END

It took a while after I began playing Rock & Roll at the radio station for record companies to begin sending us CD's.

But they did- not too many- after all, I was the only one playing our music (still am), and only for one hour once a week- but enough to keep Engineer Ken Stanley and I fairly up to date with new releases.

We'd split them…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: BACK DOING IT AGAIN? MY RETURN? PT.2 END

I have to bring this piece of crap back because among other things the sound card doesn't work in the back, only in the front.
And I goddam hate this Windows 7- compared to XP it sucks big time!
Frankly, I hate computers period!
The thrill is long gone.
An honest appraisal would confirm that…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: BACK DOING IT AGAIN, MY RETURN? PT.1

Just got a new computer, and I don't know this damn new Windows 7, just feeling my way around.
Maybe it's better than Vista, but certainly NOT XP!

I was without anything for a long time.

And it's incredible how much you always LOSE in the process.
Programs and equipment that used to work, are changed- using them must be figured…

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE PT.2 END

After the Intermission, we continue with 1946's It's A Wonderful Life and the project of inserting an updated Rock & Roll soundtrack into it.
And it is true, I did have a box of tissues nearby.
After all these years, this Movie still gets to me!
I'll pick…

IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE PT.1

I have been thinking of trying to do this for a very long time.
Provide a Rock & Roll Soundtrack to the much loved and immensely popular movie- particularly at this time of year- "It's A Wonderful Life".
Soundtracks albums are very important and…

THE 2011 CHRISTMAS PARTY PT.2

We continue with Christmas 2011.

You know how at many parties there is someone who starts trouble?

Well, at our Party that Troublemaker will be ME!

With tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek, I'll take a musical look at what I called "the freeloaders who write to Santa Claus and feel entitled to what they asked for", lol!

Even Santa will chime in about that.

I'll also have some Carols that are given very, very different musical treatments…

THE 2011 CHRISTMAS PARTY PT.1

Welcome to my annual two-week Christmas Party.

It is usually an exercise in experimentation, and this year is no exception.

All I knew when I sat down to do this show was that I had an opening song- then it took on a life of its own.

And that life of its own was to first musically state the obvious, lol!

I invite you to join me for an eclectic collection of Christmas…

REMEMBERING GEORGE HARRISON & JOHN LENNON 2011 PT.2 END

Closing it out as usual this year with John Lennon, who died on Dec. 8th, 1980.
That's 31 years ago- meaning there is a whole generation of people who don't remember it firsthand.
Those of us who do will never forget it.…

REMEMBERING GEORGE HARRISON & JOHN LENNON 2011 PT.1

It is that bittersweet time of year again.

Between the deaths of George Harrison and John Lennon- one by disease, the other murdered.

I hadn't realized it was 10 years ago for George, he died on November 29th, 2001, and we here in New York were still reeling from the attacks of Sept.11th.

As is usual for these shows, I will try to play interesting things you may never have…

THANKSGIVING 2011 PT.2 END

I really miss doing these Thanksgiving shows with Engineer Ken Stanley.

They and the Christmas shows were the most fun for us each year.

Now I am my own Engineer, and Ken has retired.

I have two songs about Going Home in this chapter.

One is a personal favorite I can't seem to ever leave out that I remember being so hard to find…

THANKSGIVING 2011 PT.1

Well, I was expecting you, just open the door and come on in Friend!
That will make more sense after you've heard the opening to the annual Thanksgiving show.
I will set the table, the Thanksgiving table, with a few songs of Peacefulness.
Not always the…
