ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUND IS WOR-FM PT.4

Moving on with this celebration of WOR-FM bringing Rock & Roll to Commercial FM Radio 49 years ago on July 30th 1966, I should say why I chose this year to honor it.

I know the 50th Anniversary would have more impact,

But who knows where we will all be a year from today...the time to do it is NOW!

This time a look at a guy who many people liked and almost just as many found grating, Murray Kaufman, known…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUND IS WOR-FM PT.3

This Series was originally broadcast in the Summer of 2011, so kindly add 4 years to all dates I say.

I mentioned last week, a union strike over a new pay scale for FM jocks prevented the hired DJ's to go on the air.

They were anxious to go on that first day, July 30th 1966, but not allowed.

On the 2nd day, July 31st 1966, WOR-FM did a very strange thing.

They started running announcements explaining their…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUND IS WOR-FM PT.2

This Series was originally broadcast in the Summer of 2011, so kindly add 4 years to all dates I say.

As the 49th Anniversary of WOR-FM's July 30th 1966 debut on the air approaches, I'll continue with some fun old Airchecks and Music ONLY from 1967 and Before.

And I know there are radio freaks like myself who LOVE those old airchecks.

In many cases they bring back happier times just as much as Music…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE SOUND IS WOR-FM PT.1

This Series was originally broadcast in the Summer of 2011, so kindly add 4 years to all dates I say.

No theme, group or artist featured for the next few weeks- but a Radio Station!

A now-defunct Radio Station, WOR-FM, that had really only about 14 months of glory- and sadly, it's call letters no longer even exist.

But it was the First Commercial FM to play Rock & Roll, and it laid the groundwork for what…

Soccer....this will make you laugh

American style football is a rough sport that is quickly losing ground to soccer (a more gentlemanly sport.)
This short video explains much....You have to watch this not matter how you feel about Soccer.…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: FRENCH CLASS PT.2 END

Summer School French Class wraps up with Rock & Roll and Pop Songs that have French in them.

After the first one, these might be a bit more unknown.

Of course, that depends on who's doing the listening!

Plus there are times in your Life that you hear and know Songs but can't explain why.

In my case, I have a Set of Music that goes back to when I was a little kid, when I had absolutely no control over what Music…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: FRENCH CLASS PT.1

It is no coincidence that last week's Bastille Day finally got me to do the French Class show I've been thinking about for a long time.

The simple premise is Rock & Roll and Pop Songs that have French in them.

I am sure everybody would have their own list, these are some that happen to be on mine.

It's just Music and it's just Fun!…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL3-FAVES AND GUILTIES PT.2

I realized during the break that the date was July 14th, Bastille Day- a big deal in France and for the French Revolution in 1789.

I was kinda proud to quickly think of a song to play commemorating it.

After that, an Academy Award Winner, a song by Lighthouse that I will always be of the opinion should have been a big hit, and still can't understand why it wasn't.

Then a Set of songs that deals with a painful situation…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: VOL3-FAVES AND GUILTIES PT.1

This is the first chance I am getting to congratulate the U.S. Women's Soccer Team for their winning the World Cup.

A wonderful accomplishment, I couldn't be prouder of them!

Then it's Volume 3 (seems like I've done more), where I'll play some Favorites and Guilty Pleasures of mine- my little contribution to songs you've heard or should have heard.

Unusual for me, I knew before I sat down what the first four songs…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: HERE COMES SUMMER PT.4

More Deep Cuts for Here Comes Summer Part Four.

But maybe not quite as deep or mellow as Part Three.

I'll explain how ideas for Songs come- in this instance it was something I said just before the break in Part Three- resulting in a nice long set!

Admittedly, these were two eccentric halves, but it gave me room to stretch and I like that.

And I think YOU will like this Chapter.

In any case, I am sure I will…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: HERE COMES SUMMER PT.3

After a week off for the 4th Of July, Here Comes Summer continues.

And the Theme Within A Theme is Summer Love!

It's happened to us all- bright sun, green grass, shiny beach, a lot of skin showing- those Pheromones are flying all over the place!

I have a Coming Of Age Song, and we all know what that means, by a surprising guy that is surprisingly good.

Got another from those early days of FM Rock Radio that was…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: 4TH OF JULY 2015 PT.2 END

It's the 4th Of July, coming soon to a country near you, lol!

And American Music for it.

At long last there is a Rocking Version of The Star Spangled Banner!

I'll play it, and more.

Wrapping up this Celebration Of America's Birthday with Songs that may have flown under your radar but are NAMED 4th Of July.

Happy 4th…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: 4TH OF JULY 2015 PT.1

My forgetting to turn the Calendar Page, as is often the case, breaks up the Here Comes Summer shows.

I discovered we are just days away from Independence Day...or the 4th Of July for those who haven't connected them!

And as always, I try to present these Rockollections shows with a slightly different look at things.

Hopefully, that…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: HERE COMES SUMMER PT.2

Damn, Summer has arrived with a Vengeance, it is HOT!!!

More Summer Songs, including one by the Beach Boys not played very often- and if you grew up at a certain time I would have to think they symbolize Summer more than any other Group.

I don't do Summer every year, but when I do I seem to have fallen into a Tradition...or just a Habit, lol!

That will be taken care of in here, and maybe next Episode too.

I must…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: HERE COMES SUMMER PT.1

At 12:38PM Sunday, June 21st it Officially Became Summertime.

Music to welcome it in is what I've got here, with Summer Music and Summer Memories.

After all, Summer's Here And The Time Is Right!

Including an old Instrumental from the late, great, 1st FM Rock Experiment, WOR-FM in 1966.

Enjoy!

ROCKOLLECTIONS: FATHERS DAY 2015 PT.2 END

I'll open this Fathers Day closing half with a Song by a very popular group from the early and mid-60's that was trying to get into some Social Commentary in 1968.

It didn't work for them and hardly anyone noticed.

I'll have a few of my favorite Songs by Daughters about their Fathers.

Then the centerpiece of this Chapter- the Conflict Between Fathers And Sons.

To close, a Song that I feel cannot be followed by…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: FATHERS DAY 2015 PT.1

Almost 10 years ago, I did a 3 Week Series about Fathers.

This will just be a one week abridged version- with some different Songs I didn't play back then.

There is some snarl in this Opening Half, a Pet Peeve of mine concerning those Deadbeat Dads, who impregnate women and then disappear.

Doing that doesn't make you a Father...or a Man!

I even have a couple of Songs tackling that.

But I'll start with some nice,…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: RETURN TO THE RAT RACE PT.2

With this whole Rat Race thing, the question arises, "Why are we in it?"

For most of us, I would think it is to get by, make ends meet.

For others, it may be to get things, particularly material things.

Still others want to become rich.

I'll have a brief Musical look at them, and what makes them Happy...maybe!

Then it is on to that All-Important Antidote To The Rat Race, Time To Unwind!

Maybe do a little…

ROCKOLLECTIONS:RETURN TO THE RAT RACE PT.1

Haven't been to the Musical Rat Race in a while.

Thus far, there were 3 Rat Race shows for last Labor Day, then Back To The Rat Race last December, and now a Return.

Just a matter of time before I do Son Of Rat Race, lol!

But it's easy to come back because the Race is always ongoing and there's a multitude of Songs about Work.

So join me for another Fun Adventure In Labor!…
